help me choose a GPU pls

i need to upgrade my gpu i have a gtx 260 and i cant decide on what to get im waiting for everything to come out in june but for gpus it has to be nvidia because ati is too far away (october i think)

 

i do games desing (maya/max, zbursh, photoshop etc.) and ALOT of gaming (not as much now since i have a 260 i cant even open dark souls 3)

 

what would be the best card for me

1080

1070

980 ti

 

all i know is i will be buying one of them when they come out since sli is a waste of money imo

Do you have a budget?

The 1080 comes with lots of new cool features, and you are getting the performance of 2 gtx 980 ti. So it might be worth the investment

The 1080 is a good choice

 

But it does NOT have the performance to 2 980 ti's!

Where did you hear that?

If you want, wait to see 1070 results and go from there. It releases June 10th. With reviews probably around June 1st.

It's usually around 10 to 20% better than a 980 ti or 980's in SLI.

No where near 2x in games.

(NVIDIA claims it is 2x better in VR)

i do like to crank up the graphics if i can atm i try to go wtih 1080p but higher would be good too my games are almost anything that looks good (i got around 200 games on steam *the sales kill me -.-*) the fps im ok with 30-60 i would love it on 60fps but i really dont mind it on 30ish anything below that and i start to get annoyed at it and my budget is around £500ish but im not getting the founders since 3rd party most likely will be better

first thinks first it has to be for games design modelling rendering etc after that its a gaming pc

Too much misinformation in this thread.

 

1080 without throttling is only 2% faster than a factory overclocked 980 Ti

A 1080 throttled to 1607 Mhz is 10% SLOWER than a factory overclocked 980 Ti

Overclocking a 1080 to 2 Ghz+ barely increases performance, only 1-2 extra fps and no where near as much gain as OCing older GPUs.

 

1080 throttles to 1607 Mhz within 5 minutes when placed inside any PC case and used to run a video game due to reaching 85 degrees.

 

Reviews online rarely show this scenario because they have reviewed and benchmarked the card in an open test bench.

 

Knowledge is power, please do your research on the 1080 first, all the above information is already posted on this forum in current threads.

 

*Please note that these results are only a problem with the crappy founders edition. You will want to wait for decent third party designs with beefy fansinks that can maintain the boost clocks while gaming, or watercool the reference design.

I still recommend the 1080 if it's in your budget. I do NOT recommend the stock cooler, wait for aftermarket coolers.

Like Bhav mentioned, the stock cooler can't keep the 1080 cool enough.

 

If you can't afford the 1080 for any reason, the 980 ti is still an excellent card. There are going to be used 980 ti's selling for a lot less than usual after the 1080 launches at the end of this month

I'd wait for the AIB GTX1080's to release, the current GTX1080FE is a joke of a card, not even worth half its price. It gets way too warm, downclocks within a few minutes and will be as loud as a Boeing.

 

Wait and see if the aftermarket/custom designs are better and actually worth the cash. Don't let the insane pascal hype fool you yet.

This any after market version is better maybe EVGA or MSI versions will be a good pick?

Only time will tell, but usually those two brands make good cards. 

 

Hopefully they hey can sort out the cooling and the lacking power delivery the 1080FE suffers from. Again, don't fall for the hype yet. Wait and see if things turn out better than they currently are. The Founders Edition looks nice on graphs but with a little more research you'll notice that's it's very very mediocre for its price.
