Will Polaris hold a candle to Pascal?

Based on what we have been seeing from nvidia so far do you think AMD has a chance? Will Polaris 11 stink but Polaris 10 will kick-ass? Will AMD only be kept alive by the fact that they will manufacture the GPU's for Apple and the APU's for consoles? When will they make a stand against the 1080? Do you think anyone will buy a Pro Duo now that 1080s are coming out and they are a third the price?

My prediction: fully unlocked Polaris 10 will beat the GTX 1070 at a much lower price, but will not beat the GTX 1080,  (it's not meant to) and Polaris 11 will hopefully be between the performance of the R9 380x and the GTX 970.

I would be very surprised is a four wheeler held a candle up to Pascal Colors.

Oh you meant GPUs.

Yes. They will compete.

IF you want, I will give you credit every single time I use that GIF. xD

But the point of it is really to show the fact that we don't know anything about the future. We can only predict.

I don't mind if someone else uses this GIF, I rather encourage everyone to use this GIF whenever you see topics like this. Pretty funny find, whoever found/posted it first. :D

we don't know how any of these card will perform yet, we can only speculate going of Nvidia's maths to how the pascal cards will perform...and polaris we have no idea, all we know is that they have said they want to make these cards for entry level VR and make them more affordable....given what we know about VR, we are looking at between 390 and fury level performance to do so, so if it comes in-between these two cards for $299 then maybe AMD have the 2nd / 3rd tier winner once again, which is where all the money is made on graphics cards.

The 1070 being priced at $379 (only ones worth having will be more like $450) being touted as having titanX performance (highly doubt) may put a spanner in the works.

Polaris is slated to be a mid range card, in the like of the R9 380.  If that's the case then AMD is in trouble, specially if what Nvidia is claiming about the 1080 & 1070 are true.  We already know that the 1080 will be a Titan killer at nearly 1/2 the price.  We are going on the assumption that the 1070 will be a 980ti competitor.

If that's the case, then the only hope AMD can hold on to dear life is DX12 an the prospected benefits they are supposed to get.  However there's a big problem for AMD.  It's going to take a while for DX12 to be polished.  Even the benchmarks AMD has been gloating about are in house from broken games with unpolished drivers.  On the flipside you can say it highlights their advantage over Nvidia.  That is a valid point.  However, DX11 isn't going to be ignored all of a sudden.  In fact, many new games, DX11 still performs better.

What does this mean?  Well we all know that Pascal is completely capable of async computing.  AMD says "oh shít" with that one.  Then there is the option of Nvidia just using brute force to over come this issue.  Now if Nvidia saturates the market in the next year or two with their overly powerful card (assuming Polaris is a bust), then AMD has a lot to worry about because developers won't wait for AMD to get their act together.  Since Nvidia has about 60-70% share of the PC gpu market, I can see developers saying adios to AMD.

Performance in VR is not something to dismiss.  Keep in mind that TWO screens of 90 frames per second is a LOT of numbers to crunch.

I guess to a fan boy of AMD it would be wishful thinking and puts them of the defensive.

However it's still a valid argument.

Polaris (according to AMD) is slated as a mid level (380) replacement.  Surely no real gamer will get excited over that.

Pointing out the fact that AMD doesn't have anything on the horizon that rivals Nvidia's technology isn't stupid.

Responding with a question of someone taking their meds is the epitome of stupidity.

Polaris is not a rebrand of 28nm GPUs, mind you.
