Hello!

i'm newbie OC-ers here, so today i tried to OC my 6600k. then, i go to BIOS, and set 42x (i think start with low values, im scared if too high it will blow up my CPU :S )

so... here goes... ratio...42x. Ok, Voltage i leave it auto (its ok?)

so i restarted my PC...

Boot suceed, and login sucess. Ok. Cool.

Then i launched Userbenchmark software. then i opened my Task manager...

WHAT?

messageImage_1462692071051.jpg

Seriously? 5,0GHZ? with max temp is 61c....

Is it turbo tech or what? :S

the benchmark is done.. my CPU scored 105% ! well... i'm too scared to fry my CPU so i quickly shut down and open bios, restore to default.

well here is the result : http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/1086374

well here is my spec

CPU : you know :D

RAM : Corsair DDr4 Vengeance LPX 3200Mhz

GPU : GTX970 Palit Jetstream

Cooler : Liquid Cooler DeepCool Maelstrom 120T

PSU : CX500...that is. CX500. you read it correctly.

EDIT :

Oh.. before i shut down my PC, i tried OCCT it and still stable.... (not too long)

a GeForce GTX series 970 user.

Windows task manager starts breaking when you overclock if you set it to 4.2ghz in the bios that's what it's doing.

I would be careful at 5.0Ghz, I doubt you'll need 5.0 Ghz, I would go for 4.5/4.8 as it'll be safer and keep your CPU living a little longer

Speed doesn't damage the cpu voltage does.

Bug in Windows. You can see it's running at 4,2 ghz in the other black / green window.

Dont use auto voltages, it normally overvolts way too much.

Yeah, don't do that. Most motherboards, including MSI, will pump way more voltage than they need to into an overclocked chip if left to their own devices. That's begging for damage down the line (or immediately, in some cases). If you're going to overclock, you need to be running voltage manually.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Auto voltage at stock speed? Yes. That's what it was designed for.

technically yes

but i've seen a guy changed his multiplier to x90 for fun (on an AMD chip iirc)

and it bricked his cpu, resetting cmos didnt helped `-`

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Here's a simple guide on how to overclock:

1 - Increase your multiplier/base clock until it gets unstable

2 - Increase voltage

3 - Repeat

so :

increase multiplier as possible , for example i got 4.6Ghz stable, then 4.7Ghz unstable, i need to increase the voltage?

Yes. But only do it by small increments. Don't increase the voltage from 1 to 98, that is gonna request like a million watts. No, 1 to 1.05 is fine.

Process is the same for 6600K chips.
