Purpose of a 2nd computer?

Having a laptop is always handy for studies or work related stuffs, but won't be as powerful as fully rigged desktop PC, which would be better suited for gaming, rendering, and so on.

I have a number of laptops. Apart from collecting purposes, I always make sure I have at least 2 laptops for productive work. If one fails, I always have a backup. In addition to that, I also usually have a high performance laptop or gaming laptop which isn't as mobile as my work laptop, but has the horsepower if I need it. So that's already a minimum of three machines that I use. Any further laptop is usually just for fun, collecting or testing purposes, like trying different Linux distros. Sometimes I'll also get a laptop for one very specific purpose, like my M11x, which I got for the sole purpose of light gaming while travelling during holidays.

Streamers/ youtubers like to, you can record/ stream and render on one computer using a capture card and game on another computer so they could get better performance.

I would like to have my second computer for more storage and personal file storing purpose.

second computers are great as a backup rig, incase your main rig dies all of a sudden, you can just swap to the backup and carry on until the main one is fixed. Or you can sell it to friends.

I have three computers.  One is a laptop used for normal day to day stuff and some occasional work use.  The second is one set up as a media center and used to remote into if I am away from home. The third is my NAS for mass storage.
