New Build incoming! Is it worth sticking with Windows 7 plunging into Windows 10?

Asking because whilst I've heard the horror stories about 10 being a buggy mess with incompatibilities galore, it's also going to have DX12 and such which will probably be vital later on down the line for playing newly released titles. I'm figuring out what OS to buy and find myself at a quandary as a result of what users of Windows 10 have been saying. Is it all just hot air, or is there something to it that'd be worth sticking to Windows 7 as a result?

Worth sticking with 7. Don't even mess with 10. We have Vulkan for a reason

Well if you're going with a Skylake (or likely Zen CPUs too) I'd suggest you just deal with Windows 10 because Microsoft and at least Intel might be serious about not having security patches for (at least) Skylake CPUs on Windows 8.1 and older, which would of course include Windows 7.

Though there's a chance they might not be serious and will continue to provide security updates for those CPUs.

If you have Windows 7, you have until July 29th to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

 

Windows 10 works great, and has been working amazingly well for most people. It is safe, secure, stable, like Windows 7, and it jam packed with new features compared to Windows 7 in productivity, plus you have the whole feedback program.

 

Games will eventually be in DIrectX12, and if you want to take advantage of new features and performance increase, you need it. (You also need a DirectX 12 compatible graphics. Keep in mind that current graphics cards only support the performance increase of DirectX12 and some feature set (at potentially reduced performance), not 100% certified. Similar to Vulkan, so you need a next gen graphics card (AMD coming up card, or Nvidia Pascal GPU which will be released tonight)

Okay, then if you don't want to use Windows 10 in the meanwhile then you could just install Windows 7 for now but as @GoodBytes said just be sure to upgrade by the 29th of July so you can get Windows 10 for free.

Oh and DO NOT wait for the last day, you can be sure that Microsoft servers will be under heavy load in the last few days, and you might miss the boat.

Remember that it isn't enougth to download Windows 10, it needs to be activated as well. When Windows 10 was released, it took some people 1 week and some a bit more, before Windows 10 activates itself.

So it seems like my best bet is to go with whatever is cheapest as @Ronnie76 suggested.

The latest Win10 build, you can use your original Win7, 8, 8.1 key to activate. I've tried it with my Win8 key and it works. that means with that single product key, I can either install 8 or 10.

Yeah but the issue is that I am making a new build, and my copy of windows for that is good for only one "user". Plus I plan on passing it along to someone, so the OS will have to go with it.

win10 works pretty well, every update does seem to do something buggy to me, granted I uninstalled a lot of microsoft bloatware and cut as many strings as I could for Microsofts data collection stuff. A quick dism restorehealth command has fixed almost every issue, the exception being system and compressed memory eating half my cpu all the time, but fiddling with stuff eventually fixed it, even if I don't know exactly what did it

Eh, I've been a little reluctant to upgrade it on the the current laptop I'm using, though I have no real incentive to.

Now when I build my first PC come this summer (hopefully before the 29th of July) I'll just have to be sure I have a secondary SSD in my build/rig and have a linux distro on it so I can at least play a few games while I give Windows a little time to clean itself off after taking a crap on itself if it does such a thing.
