I really do hate to be that guy but it isn't racism so much as the belief in a superior *ethinc group*, not race. The Nazis didn't believe that all whites were superior, only Aryans.

Mentioning Hitler or the Nazi regime doesn't mean they are racist. It all depend on the context itself.

 

When people are arguing in the comment, someone can easily just drop a "you're literally Hitler" or something like that, which I've heard and seen quite a few times. That doesn't make them racist.

I feel like Godwin's Law is just a load of bollocks. Because as a conversation grows longer (and that in the field of probability requires that the conversation size approach infinity), the probability of any one thing being said approaches 1. It's the same chance of finding an instance of a Nazi comparison as there is of finding a comparison between pubic hair and helicopters.

 

That said, something like the graph shown in the OP gives much more tangible data, on the lines of "90% of threads with more than 4000 comments have at least one mention of Hitler or Nazis".

 

And on the topic of Hitler or Nazis, I don't like how much stigma they still carry so many years in the future. Yes, it's useful for humanity to not forget, but this is more than just not forgetting. It's like we're obsessed with it as a society and that's not helping close the proverbial wounds that we suffered as a species.

I'd say more on on the line of Protestant or atheist than Catholic. The Nazi region was never an atheist state, but they did not like Catholics.

Just because someone mentions Nazis or Nazism doesn't inherently mean a majority of reddit threads/users are pro-Nazi/pro-Hitler...


Some how I think one could liken that to saying that someone who finds Nazi Germany/German Reich and the Axis side of WW2 interesting and wants to do some research into the subject and then calling them a Nazi or a Nazi sympathizer.

 

The motives of the NSDAP and Hitler wasn't racism exactly. As someone pointed out earlier they only thought there was one kind of people/race that was superior and that was the Aryan race. Racism is different than the ideals of Racial Supremacy, though those ideals to tend to be cloaked or coated with racism or racist tendencies. One could technically argue that the motive of the NSDAP and Hitler weren't racist in nature because the final solution was mostly targeting Jewish people which is a religious group not a race. That's part of the reason why many Trump supporters argue Trump isn't racist because Muslims/Islam isn't a race. Even if it does generally tend to refer to a racial ethnicity. I would agree with Trump supporters that he isn't Racist (to an extent, that Mexican comment was kind of Racist or at least sort of Xenophobic) but if they're moderate Republicans who support LGBT rights... Well in that case it's a bit harder to defend Trump in that case. 

 

(Oh boy, I bet I might start a flame war about mentioning Trump and showing that I don't really like him).

 

@ANewFace I don't hate the Donald. I never really did I suppose, I however don't like many of his policy ideas and would prefer Bernie or Jill Stein. The trade agreements, well those I could care less about. Except for maybe TPP. Which I think is a shame that Obama and Hillary support it, though I guess it shouldn't surprise me.
