Are this fans any good?

lovingGamer

Where are you putting them and what are you using them for? If it's just for general case airflow they aren't bad but if they are going onto a radiator they are not good.

Those are great. The AF120 in the OP is mediocre at best.

Moved to Air Cooling.

Fine, as long as they are used on a heatsink, radiator, or case exhaust. When used as an intake, particularly in a restrictive one, they get starved of air, stall, and become inefficient.

How did you determine that..?

Reviews showing real performance in a case such as the Define R4 vs other fans. Results will likely be better the less restrictive the intake is.

If you have evidence to the contrary, I'd be interested to see that.

That applies to all fans. It seemed like you were referring to the NF-A14 in particular.

Does it really?

In fact, I actually was referring to the NF-A14 in particular. For example: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/2a8o51/discussion_120mm140mm_case_fan_test_feat_noctua/

Yes, the fans under test are the industrialppc-2000 version. That only emphasizes the problem, which is more manifest at higher RPM.

I haven't seen any fans perform better with more restriction besides guiding ducts and the like. Especially in a case like the Define R4 where the inlet is very close to or even in front of the edge of the fan, any 140mm fan can stall with varying results.

HiTechLegion tests the NF-A14 in the front of a Define R4 as intake here with different results: http://www.hitechlegion.com/reviews/cooling/heatsinks/32759-noctua-nf-a-fan?showall=&start=2

The results you linked for the NF-A14 seems unusual and I haven't come across similar results elsewhere.

Interesting. Those results are certainly contradictory. At this point I'm tempted to just buy them myself and find out which it is.
