Hi everyone!

I'm planning to build a new system for both gaming and video work using my power supply from a previous build which is a Corsair AX1200 (overkill).
While the older system still works great, I'd like to utilize it for other purposes like rendering videos and other processes.

Is it possible to power both the new and the old one from one PSU?

Thank you for those who want to help out.

Phanteks created a unit for that since they had a case that could fit two systems in one case and let you run both off just a single PSU:

Thank you! Time to look into reviews.

Also, is this build path safe or would it be better/safer to just get another PSU for the other build?

It would simplify wiring between the two but if you have it all on one big system this would be the easiest way of doing a 2 PC's 1 PSU thing.

True! One thing I forgot to put into consideration was my previous build had an ATX motherboard. =.= I wonder how to pull this off with that and another..

Let me just roll on in my filing cabinet, oh wait! xD

With some modding to a big case I'm pretty sure you can fit it in or some of the large cases for Caselabs can definitely accommodate dual systems.

OMG! That's huge yet awesome LOL

I'll have to look into how this should go. Still have months before the money comes in for the new system and hopefully get some plans done on if I have to pursue this route or just build another system.

Thank you for your help!

both systems will need to be off and on at the same time

also idk how you will manage turning both systems off simultaneously because when you shut down a PC it will cut the PSU power before the other shuts down

Oh my! Does it have to be that way? :( That'll be quite the hassle if I want to power down the other system if not in use.

yeah PSU power goes off when a PC is off

so i think its pot actually possible because you would never be able to shut down the systems properly

you better look for two PSUs...

I thought they made it so it was independent with the block being able to turn on or off each section as needed, I could be wrong though.

oh is this some special power routing block in that case you were talking about?

if that lets you turn off each power system individually then I guess it may be possible

never heard of this "power block" before though

I'm not actually sure how they are doing this without an extra sense line unless they're solely relying on the power on line on the PSU but yeah it looks like they are capable to turning on one system at a time. Not sure how the drives would work out though other than constantly on for either system since it doesn't look like there is a sata power option on that thing:/

simply splitting wires does theoretically work, but the phanteks thing does a bit more to stop certain oddities from happening. (like turning off the 12 volt rail to a system that's off.)
