So I've had my 970 for a while now, since the release date last year and I've not really been paying attention to the thermals and overall performance etc.. as it's been performing fine

But I just went to check out of curiosity and it seems to get pretty hot (hitting 91c after only playing Rise of the Tomb Raider for 10mins)

The cooler on my 970 isn't the best as it's only a blower-style cooler (Like a reference card) the brand is Palit.

Here's a screenshot, what do you think?

Thanks for any help in advance :)

I could check if it's still in warranty first and if not then I could do that as a plan B

negative pressure isnt that great for blower cards

try swapping the radiator to top or rear as exhaust

edit: also, try channeling the air to the card directly, preferably not from the AIO as that air is slightly warmer

There doesnt seem to be anything bad here, so you might need to repaste the GPU, or RMA if you're not comfortable with that.

It's an easy simple thing to do, and usually doesn't void the warranty. (Unless there's one of those stickers on the screws.

I could definitely do that right now but if it doesn't fix the problem I don't currently have the money to get another card right away and I do play a lot of games lol

I understand what you mean but I don't think that the 1x extra fan could be doing that much harm could it? I'd bet it would hardly make a difference tbh

I hate it when manufacturers do that. XFX is nice and are fine with that unless there's pcb damage.

I know, I feel like such a noob for not just waiting until the store re-stocked with different brand cards, When i bought it this was the only brand left in stock as all of the other ones had sold out due to me buying it on the release date

hard to say, blower cards prefer positive air pressure

negative pressure would be restricting it from cooling itself properly

if you're lazy to configure your fans, try opening your side panel and run it, see if that helps

if it does then its probably the fan placement, and possibly thermal compound too

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Looks like you're feeding hot air into your case.

First try getting as much dust out of there as possible and reposition the AIO to an exhaust spot. Also make sure you have positive air pressure inside the case.

There was a 9c difference, Isn't 82 still kinda hot though or is that normal?

given its a stock cooler, its about normal, maybe a bit higher

but atleast within the 85c safe zone

I could possibly get a hg10 n970, Do you think it will fit my card? as I think I may have a H80i somewhere that I could use from another PC to dedicate to my card.

i wouldnt bother tbh

i would just switch to positive air pressure and observe the temps, as long as its below 80c then it should be fine

positive air pressure should aid it slightly too, opening the side panel is just neutral pressure lol
