980 or a fury x?

The MSRP of the 980 Ti is 650$ - 1500$ is insulting.

1000$ is also a lot for a Fury X (MSRP is 550$)

Prices are in AUD, OP is in Australia.

Quoted RRP is USD

Still more expensive than it should be (IMO), but your not taking into account exchange rates.

Why not just go for a cheaper GTX 980Ti? That variant is ASUS' most premium offering. Wouldn't hurt to go for a STRIX.

Is it possible to buy from a different store rather than Umart?

Strix 980 Ti can't OC at all since it's thermally limited - 80*C at stock

Assuming OP is overclocking. I know the STRIX isn't quite the best cooler in the world but I'd rather have that than a Fury X if it was my choice.

Fury X is simply better value. With a 980 Ti you are paying 500$ extra for a 10% increase in performance

Stock 980 Ti is not faster tho - it will also be louder and hotter. Fury X has a very high-quality fan attached to the AIO keeping temps under 60*C

I'd say get the Fury X. Reasons being watercooling included, HBM memory and it being more future proof 'cause it has hardware native DX12 support whereas the GTX 900 series does not.

thanks guys. don_svetlio i think you have a great point so i've ordered the fury x, but after ordered it i had a sudden thought, the fury has 4 gig ram and the 980 has 6 will this be a future problem?

At the moment, the GTX 980Ti is the better card. The only limiting factor is the brand. I say it's in your best interest to not get ASUS and grab a EVGA variant.

Factory overclocked - it's different from a stock GTX 980Ti. Guru3D is telling me that the STRIX is alot faster than the Fury X (and we know there aren't any aftermarket coolers for it). Also, I'm aware that the overclocking ability on the Fury X isn't exactly huge.

Any bench before November 2015 is invalid tho - that's when the big driver updates hit - performance went up by around 5-10%

Before November, you say? LegitReviews (they are a credible source from what I've seen) still says that the STRIX leads well ahead the Fury X. And the article was published on January 4th.

Which benchmark is this? I'm seeing a 30FPS gap between the Fury X and STRIX on BF4 at 1440p.

Those numbers aren't logical since the Fury X gets 80fps at 4K and they show it getting similar fps at 1440p - my bet is they didn't retest it and just used their summer tests. Invalid

Drivers might also be messed up on their test drive - the Fury X was at 48*C whereas it should be at 58*C

It depends on games you want to play. For some games 980 Ti is better and for some FuryX is better. In games that are not gimped to green or red side they are similar cards. AMD cards are not losing their power with time as much Nvidia ones which get gimped where new generation comes and they get outdated quicker. But FuryX has AIO cooler without any option to adjust pump speed, which will be annoying for someone who value low noise levels. This is mostly why I didn't changed 980 Ti for FuryX after getting FreeSync monitor and I am waiting for Vega, I can't stand AIO coolers, especially ones with no control over them.

Fan is never a problem, you can always plug it to mobo or fan controller and control it easily. And if you cannot, there is always some way to make it work. No control over pump is a problem, and opinions about default quiet pomp profile are unconvincing to me, people are half deaf there days. No offense, it may be also that I have some kind of super hearing, but I very highly doubt that.

I would consider a Sapphire Fury Nitro before a fury X, they should be considerably cheaper and get within a few frames of a FuryX with an overclock...

I have a fury and get an overclock of 1120Mhz and 520Mhz, this gives me an extra 10% perfomance over stock, The Nitro is apparently even better....

A 980ti isn't worth considering now, new Nvidia Cards are just around the corner, and Nvidia will knock the driver optimizations for the 980ti down in priority in favour of the new cards.
