980 or a fury x?

okay so my partner is having his 30th in about a week (6 days) and i know very little about computers but i have heard him talking to his mates about these cards anyway i am going to get him a card for his birthday (if that wasn't already clear) there is about a $500 difference between the 2 cards my question is what one do i get him all i know is he has a hard on for Asus so it'll have to be that brand. i've called a few places to ask and they are all saying to get the 980 ti but they don't tell me why (i just think they like the money) 

 

so guys talk 

 

oh ps he has an i5 i think 32 gig memory windows 10 ad a couple of hard drives one has very little space on it (like 200gig)

They both have almost exactly the same in-game performance. Yes some games run better on one or the other but mostly that is because of optimisation

The people who you've called are right - the GTX 980Ti would be a better choice over the Fury X (which in turn is much more powerful than the GTX 980). That may change with DX12 but I heavily doubt the adoption of it would be quick enough to warrant to go for the Red Team.

NEVER use GPUBoss - it is complete and utter bullshit. The 980 Ti is around 10% faster mostly

I'd say a normal fury, but if you really want the "extra performance", go for the fury-x, being cheaper and all.

the 980 comes with a pretty high overclock already on most boards. its a pretty good overclocker

You need at least 1580MHz to match the Fury with a 980 - most level out at 1500

Definitely the Fuy X - 500$ is not worth it for 10% extra performance

The MSRP of the 980 Ti is 650$ - 1500$ is insulting.

1000$ is also a lot for a Fury X (MSRP is 550$)

DDU is a programme with which you safely remove drivers. Installing the Fury X into the slot is simple, 16.4.1 are the AMD drivers you need to intall lastly

honestly it really depends. those are some benchmarks with 1ghz fury and a 1,216ghz 980. it changes from game to game obviously but the 980 is never far behind the fury.

Why not just go for a cheaper GTX 980Ti? That variant is ASUS' most premium offering. Wouldn't hurt to go for a STRIX.

 

Is it possible to buy from a different store rather than Umart?
