Cleaning CPU

I have a new cooling unit coming for my CPU. Now this may sound a bit noobish but when I'm cleaning the CPU if I take the CPU out Clean it then put it back in will any of my setting change ?

Thank you

Settings in terms of overclocking you mean? Those are saved on the motherboard, so will not be affected by a cooler replacement.

I'm not replacing, I'm just cleaning, just want to make sure that nothing will change if I remove the CPU to clean it.

I'm very new to this

you can just clean the cpu while its in the socket,

just wipe it with cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol

ive heard horror stories of people dropping their processor while taking it out and bent pins

or bent pins while the processor is out, so i never took mine out of the socket `-`

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Ahh, called denatured alcohol in north america. Comparable to Isopropyl but shouldn't get on your skin.

I dropped my i3 in the socket and none of them bent; it scared me though.

I like to kill hardware. In 2016 alone I have killed 20 Xeon 5160, and 10+ Pentium 4.

I take mine out of the socket to clean it, no problem at all, just be careful with it... as for the cleaning itself I use Isoprophyl around 90-95% I think it is, bit 1 litre bottle from Amazon was about £8 or so, and I use Microfibre cloths. The main reason I actually take mine out of the socket is room in the case, plus I'm more scared of accidentally spilling the Isoprophyl inside the case than I am dropping the CPU :)

you dont pour the ISPA on the chip, you dampen the cloth/cleaning material and wipe the cpu `-`

High % Isopropyl alcohol and a coffee filter. Be careful using cloth or cotton as it can leave behind fibers.

^ this, but for cleaning off big chunk of goop you can use tissue, but the last wipe have to be lint free cloth or coffee filter

LOL, yes I know you don't pour it on the chip... I've been messing with PCs for about 20 years now. I'm just saying that I have to have the Isoprophyl near the PC when I'm cleaning and could potentially spill it, I won't go into details but I have trouble with my limbs/hands and it's just safer for me to take the CPU out :)
