testing my first rig question

1) how do i make sure everything is running properly?

2) according to my setup my cpu is running at 80c....that seems rather hot, did i do something wrong? i have a kraken x61 connected to it with Noctua NTH1 thermal paste, it seems to be running fine as it turns on and everything
goes as high as 94c on the setup menu, cpu being the 5820k

that is really hot for an all in one water cooler to be honest....did you apply thermal paste and the cooler tight on the cpu?

and far as 'how do you know if everything is working'

if the system has turned on and you have installed an operating system that's a pretty good indicator you're on the right track!

If there is smoke or flames then turn everything off....quickly if it is flames :P

But you really shouldn't be seeing the CPU at those temps, what CPU are you using and is that the idle speed, i.e. when you just looking at the desktop and not running any programs, or are you bench marking or playing a game/encoding video etc

if it boots, its running properly

stress test each component (ram gpu cpu)

what cpu and is that at idle or under load?

overclocked? what volt and clock speed

On idle, without a stress test running (what programm says that btw?maybe try another one)?.

If its really that hot either the cooler isnt mounted properly or the mobo is grilling the cpu with stupid amounts of voltage (or the pump isnt plugged in or dead).

idle just right when i get to the bios setup thats the temp reading
5820k
not oc, i have no idea what the volt and clockspeed are....

maybe i wasnt clear enough, the temp reading is from my msi x99a sli plus boot menu, whether that is reliable or not idk
not running any programs its just the boot menu

make sure you mount the cooler properly. can you wiggle it around when you try to? if yes then mount it tighter

is the pump plugged in? can you feel it vibrating?

did you peel off the plastic on the bottom of the waterblock?

are the fans running?

the temp reading in bios are normally pretty accurate

fans are running
lights are on
no plastic as it was preowned
does not seem to wiggle but i will attempt to add more tightness in a bit

where should it be vibrating on the hose or the part attached to the cpu?

the part attached to the cpu, does the pump seem like its working? (vibrating slightly)

does not seem to be doing so less its very slightly

if both tubes are cold means the liquid arent moving

supposedly one tube is slightly warmer than the other if the liquid is flowing

i suggest try checking if the pump is plugged into the right header, normally the header next to the CPU_FAN header

sys_fan header is the one next to it, the manual did say cpu_pwr header but for the life of me i could not find that, figured it was just mislabeled or something

yea i think your board only has one header

so did you plug it in correctly? :o

is the pump vibrating when you tube it with your fingers?

even slightly? i suspect dead pump

plugged the 3 pin into the 4 pin sys_fan header on the mb (as i cannot find the 4pin cpu_pwr header) same result
sata is plugged to sata
and usb to usb header

do not think i am missing anything
:(

hmm... i think the AIO is possibly dead

tweak it in bios to run at 100% and see how it goes?

update: it started a small flame, though i think that was because i plugged the 3 pin into the last 3 pins of the 4 pin as opposed to the 3 first pins....but im afraid to even try again:S
i turned my system off instantly, no damage as far as i can tell

not sure why it would give that kind of reaction though but it did

flame...?

do you have any case fans to test the cpu-fan header? make sure its still working after that

btw you cant insert it wrongly, its keyed

sys-fan header actually and yea what i figured but it decided to flame up that time for some reason
had a crackling noise and then boom small flame that poofed quickly
case itself has fan headers though regardless, where most of mine are plugged in

was brought to my attention that i may want a 3pin to molex adapter instead to plug straight into my psu, though my evga 750 g2 did not seem to come with one.
which should i get? do not want to grab the wrong cable

update:
bought a new kraken x61, and i can hear the water pumping when i turn it on. something my old one did not do.
going to see if the seller will accept a return or not on my old one

do i need to remove my thermal paste from my cpu if i barely used it (only booted to bios to test my other kraken x61)?
