My first car was a 1996 Ford Taurus with the 3.0L Vulcan V6 with the horrid four speed auto, I think it made ~140hp.

I dont know if it was the best first car but it was reasonably decent.

The best first car is something small and cheap, you'll be learning how to park and getting comfortable with the roads so i would always go something small and cheap but with good safety features at least for the first couple of years.

I say this now as a responsible adult however my first car was a Holden Commodore LV Turbo (ex interceptor/police car). Extremely fast car, the first week i had it i took it out on a remote straight road and pushed it to 250kmph, afterwards i checked the tires and it said on the side that they were only rated for half of that speed, honestly don't know how i lived through my teens lol

My first car was a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Sedan. 160hp out of a 3.1L V6. This car I got from my Grandfather and I learned to drive on it. All photos are of the actual cars.

Second car was a 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited. 175hp out of a 2.5L flat 4. This car saw several Northern NY winters while at school and spent a lot of time sideways. Had it from 2011 to 2015.

Third (and current) car is a 2015 Fiesta ST. Loved the Subaru, but AWD really isn't needed in Southern Virginia and it was time for forced induction! 200+ hp out of a 1.6L inline four.

Fourth (and also current) car is a 1997 Subaru Outback with 273k miles. Really only bought this because the seller was going to trade the whole car for a set of wheels for his Focus. Got it for $800. Ended up being a good investment because the guy is a master tech at the Ford dealership near me, and probably the only person I trust doing any major work on the ST (he's already replaced the blend door actuators).

What do I think is a good first car? Out of the 4 I have owned, the 2006 Legacy. But really anything naturally aspirated and Ford Focus sized is probably good. Not too big where it's intimidating to learn on, but not too small to be impractical. Living in an area where many young people drive fast cars (military) makes me want the first car any kids I may have to be slow.

The first car I drove with a license was a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4L 4 Cyl coupe painted brown with a sort of purple glaze, almost everything about this vehicle was basic and it had 110k miles, but for $1,300, that's what you get. I maintained the car and eventually sold it for $1,900. Repair costs considered, I broke even, but put 20k miles on the car.

The first car I owned, by buying it with my money rather than relying on a junker my dad picked out, was a 2009 (not the refresh) Pontiac G6 Sedan, 3.5L 6Cyl painted blue with chrome accents. I didn't put much effort into studying it because the car was originally $9,000+ according to KBB, but I got it with $6,000 because of a family thing, so it's not like anything was wrong with it. Well, nothing that wasn't Pontiac's fault.

Honestly, as far as an actual "best" first car, my vote would be on a Toyota Camry. It's not magnificent or powerful, but that car lasts forever and saves you a ton of money.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

My first car was a 93 s10 blazer. Had good power for its weigh without being able to get you in trouble. Had some issues but never left me on the side of the road.

For your first car its the best idea to get something reliable and wont get you in trouble. Because paying for expensive work or tickets (+insurance increases) while you are young isn't fun.

First car was 03' Mitsubishi Galant. Fun car for cornering. After 120k miles broke the ignition coil and catalytic converter needed to be replaced. whoops!

Cousin had a 86' corolla stick that lasted about 20 years @ 250k+ k/m before it completely died (despite her best efforts to ruin the car over the years).

Would recommend first car be older than 05' anything newer ruin the the 'feel' of the road, as everything is electronically assisted these days.

I'm not that old, as i may sound like, i got my very first car last year.

I wanted a Chevrolet C10 for a while, i fell in love with the visuals of the truck.

Last year, browsing OLX in the middle of a friday-to-saturday night, i found this.

1984 Chevrolet C10 Crew Cab, fleet version, 1 out of 15 made for Corsan (local water company), 4.1 liter 6 cylinder "Stovebolt Six" engine, costing R$8000, had to have it.

I received many selling offers, even for double the price of the purchase, but never sold it.

It's undergoing a frame-off restoration and will receive many performance oriented mods. It's gonna be my daily.

PS: Noticed how weird it is? And how it doesn't look like an american 1984 Chevy C10? This is the brazilian version.

A massive 1.3l producing a whooping 75bhp in order to propel ~25kg of Japanese precision engineering. I loved the car, it was light, (surprisingly) agile, cheap to insure and maintain, economical and neat to drive. And surprisingly good resell value back then. I also love that most American engines are so rubbish, 3-6l engines producing 150bhp...

4.1 liter 6 cylinder engine here, american, 125 horsepower

First was a 1995 jeep grand cherokee. It had a 4.0L inline 6. I think it produced at least 200BHP. It had around 70,000 or so miles on it. It was a pretty big suv and unfortunately cost me around 75-90 bucks to fill every time when gas was around 3.50-4 per gallon.
