Hi guys,

I have an A8 7600 CPU

Paired with R9 390 xfx 8 GB version

 

Is my CPU bottle necking my GPU , 

 

Since i am out of options having an FM2+ socket, what is my future upgrade prospect for CPU

Yes, it's a pretty big bottleneck. Your option would be to upgrade to a new platform (think: Skylake i5).

Yes. You could look into the Athlon 880K for FM2+ - it performs on the level of the i3 4170.

If going intel - i5 minimum

its just budget that i do not have, i spent it all on my r9 390 /   is it really that bad ,

It will bottleneck it, but not by much.

The A10 7870K would be good if you want the best out of your GPU.

It's worse.

 

But if you're getting the performance you want/need, then I wouldnt worry about it until you can afford to upgrade.

A 7870k is just an 860k with an iGPU.

Agree on i5 min.

I don't think an 880K would be powerfull enough for the 390, but that can be me. Never used AMD CPU/APU's before, never looked into them

7870K is old, 880K is new and 10% better

i3 6100 minimum

 

it's really good enough for 390x

i3 4170 is just as good so that aswell would do fine with a 390

At this point I guess you should wait until you can upgrade both your motherboard and your CPU. Otherwise you could look into the best CPU available for your socket (the 880K I think), though I  think it would still be limiting your GPU.

the only difference is that it was tested with ddr4 otherwise they are nearly identical in performance

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: No.

 

There are scenarios where you can use the entire potential of your GPU, but in most scenarios it is bottlenecked.

 

The bottleneck is similar to when i used an A6 6400k together with an GTX 660, I could only use about half the graphics performance.

Your cpu is definitely bottlenecking your gpu. 390's usually go with core i5 quad cores or better.

I think getting a 390x wasnt a clever choice for that CPU.

 

390x has performance of 970. There surely is a bottleneck but not a massive one.

 

As far as u get 60fps at high settings in games u play, u do not need to upgrade (i dont thin k u can pull off ultra).

 

Future upgrade for you is i5 from intel with a H series (maybe B series) mobo (u dont need overclockable CPU).

 

If AMD Zen turns out to be competing with i5 then u have 2 choices.

 

Do not upgrade to AMD APU, it wont be worth it.
