@Jay97 Try viewing multiple cards and compair then against each other.
I always use MSI because I love the red theme but Asus and Evga are my great aswell.

The performance is about the same. Unless you intend on overclocking heavily and watercool it the brand wont matter a whole lot. Get the card which you think looks the best. I would recommend one with 4gb of Vram, otherwise you will be limited to what graphics you can push.

My Gaming PC

|| CPU: Intel i5 4690@4.3Ghz || GPU: Dual ASUS gtx 1080 Strix. || RAM: 16gb (4x4gb) Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600Mhz. || Motherboard: MSI Z97S Krait edition. || OS: Win10 Pro

The second link says GTX 960, but if you look at the photo it says GTX 980. I'd stay away from that as it's a little concerning.

@Jay97

I have edited your topic title to be more specific as threads like "Please help me" are far too generic.

I'd recommend the following:

EVGA 4GB GTX 960

MSI 4GB GTX 960

Zotac 4GB GTX 960

Although, pretty much any one will do the job just fine. I'd personally go for the 4GB one though. And EVGA are known for good customer support!

Thats true but can't we let him decide? Maybe he just asked for nvidea because everybody uses it ;)
I personally prefer AMD but yeah, thats my opinion.

My reasons to use Nvidia: (MSI GTX 960 Gaming 4G)
 - So I can be a Nvidia fanboy aswell (xD)

 - The many features NVidia ships with their cards.
NVIDIA CUDA, NVIDIA PhysX, NVIDIA 3D Vision, NVIDIA Surround, NVIDIA GPU Boost 2.0, NVIDIA TXAA, NVIDIA FXAA, NVIDIA Adaptive V-Sync, NVIDIA nView, NVIDIA         GeForce Experience ready, NVIDIA VXGI Technology

 - Higher clock speeds (1241MHz vs 1000MHz)

 - Less power consumption and heat. (120 Watt vs 190), it uses only 1x 8 pin PCI-E power cable.

 - Higher memory Frequency. (7010MHz vs 5800MHz)

 - No DVI-D in exchange for 2 extra DisplayPorts.

My reasons to use AMD: (MSI R9 380 Gaming 4G)

 - So you can become a AMD fanboy.

 - More streaming processors (1792 vs 1024)

 - AMD  !!!OPENSOURCE!!! Freesync etc, nvidia keeps that sh*t for themselfs...
 - Higher memory bus (256 bit vs 128 bit).

Though specs wise nvidia looks better I still will be going for AMD so I can cook my bacon on it when gaming.

No for real these test show that the R9 380 is better in overal performance, though the specs list say otherwise (this is done by AMD's magic).

DO NOT USE GPUBoss, it will give these results:

Instead use Userbenchmark for instance:

If you do decide to go with NVidia then go with a good brand like EVGA, ASUS or MSI.

MSI (GTX 960 Gaming 4G):
 - Clock:    1241 MHz (1304 MHz Boost).

 - GDDR5: 7010 MHz 4GB (128 bit bus)

 - IO:          1x DVI-I, 1x HDMI, 3x DisplayPort.

 - PWR:      1x 8pin PCI-E power connector.

EVGA (GTX 960 FTW Gaming ASC 2.0+):

 - Clock:      1279 MHz (1342 MHz Boost).

 - GDDR5:   7010 MHz 4GB (128 bit bus).

 - IO:            1x DVI-I, 1x HDMI, 3x DisplayPort.

 - PWR:        1x 8pin PCI-E power connector.

Asus (GTX 960 Strix 4GB)

 - Clock:      1291MHz (1317MHz)

 - GDDR5:   7010 MHz 4GB (128 bit bus)

 - IO:            1x DVI-I, 1x HDMI, 3x DisplayPort.

 - PWR:        1x 8pin PCI-E Power conenctor.

EW GPU Boss ew, away! Shoo! But really, don't use GPU boss for anything.

There's nothing wrong with AMD, nor is there anything wrong with Nvidia. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Personally I don't buy my cards from a moral standpoint, I don't care if Nvidia's technology isn't shared. I don't agree with it but it won't stop me buying the card if it meets my needs.

Thats why I showed the post, GPU Boss SUUUUUU*************************s but most people still use it and make wrong choices because of it, thats why I put another test page below it for real info.

I've edited the post with some gpu's from Asus, Evga and MSI for comparisons, I also noted that GPU boss isn't reliable

No doubt the R9 performs better overall, but as someone who loves ShadowPlay and a cooler PC, I prefer Nvidia :) that's all!

That's actually not correct when talking about the 380. The 190W TDP is for TongaXT mainly - the 380X. The 380 at stock settings is around 150W. Why do I believe this? Look here.

The boards' overall power consumption from idle to load is excellent really. Expect an idle wattage of roughly 10 Watts and, when the monitor goes into power save mode, the card throttles down even lower towards 3 Watts. The TDP for the 7850 we measured at roughly 110W and the 7870 at 130 Watt.

AMD advertises the board power at 130W (7850) and 175W (7870), board power is different then the TDP. If you try and visualize the power control settings slider in the Catalyst center, then you'll realize that you can increase it 20% meaning at default the TDP is roughly 20% lower then AMD's 130W for the 7850 and 175W for the 7870.

  • Reverse calculate that and at default the TDP for 7850 would be 130Wx0.80=104W
  • Reverse calculate that and at default the TDP for 7850 would be 175Wx0.80=140W
As you can see, a 380 is around 140-150W stock and maybe 190W OCed to the max. 380X is around 170W stock and 200W-ish max OC.

Take a read above. As you can see, the 380 and 960's thermal output is within spitting distance.

Iirc the Asus 960mini has passive mode, other mini's do not. A gpu should have passive mode, be sure to check your favored model it has passive cooling option too.

In general, AMD cards run hotter, it isn't the reason I bought an Nvidia card, it's just a little bonus.
