To me, there's a disconnect between your thread title and thread body. In one respect, the title talks about the eight core FX CPUs and Zen. On the other hand, the thread body talks about the 5820K and the 8370 only.

Basically I was saying:

Should I go with the FX 8*** or zen

First, what are you going to do with pc?

Second Zen isn't even out yet, for all we know it could be another bulldozer.

Third, why would you take such a huge step down in performance based on a forum post?

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

i'm not specificly pointing to hwc or any other forum here but...

some forums are collectively very.. very dumb..

its amazing what things you find when googling around for answers.

Hence why I asked that very question lol.

well... i'm sure someone at hwc splurged up that bulldozer is as fast as haswell refresh, because the clock speed is the same, and the rest of them blindly nodded along.

I am doing content creation. HardwareCanucks did a build log with an fx 8370 and 2 r9 380xs

A build log doesn't imply raw performance. I would review the performance of both CPUs to see if the 5820K is worth it to you.

yes it did because he also did benchmarks using the 6700K and the 8370

You have been here long enough now.  Do you not understand that the 5820K is a better CPU than a FX 8XXX in every way possible?  A locked i7 6700 will outperform and overclocked FX CPU.  A locked i5 can keep up in many workstation loads even.

FX is like five/six year old CPU in terms of performance.  An i7 920 (2.6GHz) is roughly equal to them.  Complete shit.

I have a hard time imagining a situation where a FX anything would be even remotely close to a 5820K in any respect if doing content creation.

The Intel 5820K may very well end up being triple the performance of the FX chip, depending on what you're doing.

It does cost more however, but if you are doing it more often than once a month for fun, then buy Intel.

Actually I disagree in that sense. Tek Syndicate did a video comparing the 8350 to the 3770K

I'm not giving you the link, you're perfectly capable of looking it up yourself

Does not matter if you agree or not.

Multiple cores. I doubt it's meant to be good for gaming

I definitely wouldnt use it for gaming

Doesn't matter.

The i5 4460 (3.2GHz), with only half the available threads, is roughly 30%(best case scenario favoring AMD) behind the eight core AMD CPU... in heavily threaded workloads.

For multi-threaded work loads the FX 8xxx isn't horrible, it's still not ideal because Intel still reigns supreme there too.

Really there shouldn't be any comparison made between the FX 8xxx and the 5820K...

The i7 6700K is fairly close to the 5820K....
