Ubisoft Opens a New Studio in the Philippines (IGN)

Article from IGN

Quote

The new studio, Ubisoft Philippines, will be the second production house for the company located in Southeast Asia. Ubisoft Singapore was the company’s first studio in that region when it opened in 2008. The Philippines-based studio will open in the second quarter of 2016, with a goal to hire up to 50 employees in its first year.

It's said in the article that it'll be located in Sta. Rosa, Laguna (totally irrelevant, but that's my hometown).  They'll also be working with the University of De La Salle to set up a training program.

As far as I'm aware, (and supported by the article from VentureBeat) this will be Philippine's first major gaming studio.

As a Filipino, I'm extremely happy.

hopefully they can actually make ubisoft good b/c SE Asia has lots of PC players

ANZ has even more players for a lot of their games. It is a different market, SEA has more players in StarCraft and Dota than it does for Assassin's Creed for example.

Hopefully the salary will be the same (if not close) to Ubisoft Singapore's salary despite being in the Philippines.

I guess it's still better to work abroad. They pay less than $1k for a senior position in the Philippines.

What are they thinking? No one professionally skilled in that country ever actually stays there to work.
