Many cored high ghz AMD cpu or a lower to mid range Intel i7 cpu

I honestly have no idea what to by for my cpu in a custom pc im building. I cant afford a super expensive cpu but i want to be able to run games like from the depths and other cpu demanding games. so what should i get? i have heard that even the lower end i7 processors are beasts but i can get a 4.7 ghz 8 core AMD processor for $100 less than some of the quad core Intel ones. please give me suggestions for which one i should get.

Intel is the better choice at the moment. Even a i5 will surpass all AMD's current offerings in gaming.

Please don't get the FX 9590.

games only uses 2 and 4 cores.

4 powerful intel cores is better thn 8 weak (4 at idle)

i5-4690k or i5 6600k is more thn enough for gaming. you don't need an i7

8 AMD cores does NOT equal 8 Intel cores.

The i7 6700k easily outperforms any 8 core AMD CPU. Of course, the AMD chips are a lot cheaper, so they're better when you're on a tight budget and willing to loose some performance.

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

i also am a youtuber and am thinking about livestreaming. some of my friends have i5's and they struggle with from the depths. its very hard on your cpu and graphics card. but if a higher end i5 is better than a lower end i7 i can try it.

The i7 has hyper-threading and is better for multitasking in general.

If you can afford it, go with intel i7.

4790k haswell or 6700k skylake are very good cpu.

I myself have the 4790k overclocked to 4,7ghz with NH-D15 air cooler and I'm very happy with the performance.

Unless you're rendering, don't bother with that many cores. The IPC of AMD CPU's is quite low, they're very old, so in games they won't keep up at all. Just ditched my FX 8 core, for an 8 core Xeon. The Xeon is clocked 1.5GHz lower, but performs as well/better in games. If you're gaming, get an i5. If you're multitasking/rendering, get an i7 or better.

my current computer is slowly falling apart. all the cooling broke, and the wifi antenna got damaged. should i go for an i5 and upgrade later or stick with my current rig and save up?

i5 has 4 cores, i7 has 4 or more with hyperthreading which effectively doubles the core count (kinda). Xeons range from i5 equivalents up to massive 18 core beasts. They're made for servers and workstations, and generally aren't as good for gaming as they're much more expensive thanks to higher manufacturing standards and pro features. Sometimes you can find a xeon that is basically the same as a core series as with the E5-1231, which is like a 4790 but cheaper and with no graphics. Get an i7 if you can afford it, an i5 if you can't and the 1231 if you're in between.

That depends. What sort of i5/i7 would you be getting? Because age is a factor too.

Get a xeon e3 1231v3 and save yourself some money. It's the price of a high end i5 with the performance of a low end i7. If you're streaming, you'll definitely want hyperthreading and the xeon is the cheapest hyperthreaded quad core available.

yeah, go for a i5,  haswell (4000 series) or skylake (6000 series)

out preforms AMD greatly, and you can still upgrade to a i7 in the future.

(Also if you do go AMD for some odd reason, the 9590 is just the 8350 overclocked, do NOT get the 9590.)

I'm a bit iffy on this, Xeons are server and editing processors..I feel like it'd be best if OP got a i5 rn and upgraded to a i7 in the future.

This. This is definitely the best choice for you since you're also doing Youtubing. (AKA video editing)

If you can afford the 6700K without sacreficing on gpu and motherboard.

Then by all means go with that.

Its simply the best cpu for gaming on the market atm.

No, you're wrong. The difference between the e3 1231 v3 and an i7 4770 is 0.1 ghz and the xeon didn't have a igpu. It works just as well for gaming.

Frankly, for most gaming needs, a i5-6500 actually does most of what you need.

An i5-6500 on a H170 board is a $300 total package.  A i5-6600K on a Z170 board is $400, except now you need to add cooling, which adds $30 for good air cooling or $60 for liquid cooling.

On the other hand, i5-6600K lets you overclock and 4.5GHz isn't out of the question, so that is an option.

The i7 chips are completely pointless for gaming.

AMD sadly is not competitive for just about anything these days, triple that for gaming.

If you want to stream without worrying about performance, there you go.  Yes, it is true that the apps that come with the video cards will do it, but it all puts a strain on your PC.
