Hello everyone, 

 

recently my gf asked me to help her build a new photo/video editing rig because her current set is doenst cut it anymore. She likes to use adobe photoshop and premiere. She wants to be to edit 4k videos.  I dont have much experience in building video editing rigs and I would like opinions on the parts i choose

 

Everything can be changed BUT THE MONITOR AND CASE. (getting the monitor and case for free)

For video editing, I reccomend an i7, which are geared more towards video editing. Maybe a 6700k.

For the usage described an X99 system will be much better. If 4K editing is desired, more memory is also required. I would suggest something like the following.

 

The ssd in the OP is not terribly good, especially if raw camera footage will be worked on. A hybrid drive does not provide much of a performance boost for a data storage drive. It is much better suited for use as a boot/system drive when an ssd is not possible.

 

I suggest a larger ssd so that it can be used for boot, system, program storage, and scratch. The hdd I suggest has a large cache for better performance.

X99, with a 4K IPS free-sync display, though it's only 27", you may want a larger 4k display for productivity

 

bit over budget though, and naturally you won't run many games at 4k with a 380, but the focus is on the CPU, not the GPU, 1080p scales well with 4k

Although I guess you already have a 960? so it's under budget then

 

also if you want a 4TB drive, go for the HGST NAS drives

you can get a 4TB HGST drive for the cost of that drive

 

PSU is a bit weak, also mine is a dollar more for higher wattage

If you want to go overkill the sabertooth X99 motherboard is pretty alright for the money overall
