DVORAK- is it better?

I am goimg to be buildng a new keyboard soon, and wiith that i was wondering if it is worth adjusting to DVORAK.

I ust set my current keyboard like that and it took me a loooooong time to write this.

If you type slow, it might help. I type plenty fast with little to no errors, so I don't mind, but if you're having trouble with typing, DVORAK might just be for you.

I do tpye badly, kinda fast, but not that fast, i think ill try to lear DVORAK so i can be faster in my typing, I never learned qwerty properly.

I still have my old Dvorak somewhere - it actually wasn't that hard to adjust to. Problem for me is by the time I got around to trying it I was already fully accustomed to Qwerty, and it never really could catch up. 

 

Also pretty much nobody I've ever come across has one, so if you have cause to use another keyboard whilst not at yours, it'll almost be guaranteed to be some form of Qwerty. For me that meant everyday (work), and I couldn't be arsed carrying a keyboard with me, with all the stigma that entails.

 

In in the end it's a matter of convenience, and sticking with Qwerty was easier. Sad and slightly shitty reason to go that route, but it is what it is. That and I didn't really find it faster or more accurate, but that's probably personal.

At equivalentm skill its about 20% faster more or less depending on what you type. Its actually not the optimal layout for English, colmak is closer to ideal but dvorak makes sense rather than being pure ideal placement. Dvorak is very good for programming.

Randomly switched my layout to Dvorak via windows settings just now... seems the old fingers still remember where the letters are even after 3 years not using it. 

 

Sucks that shortcuts are difficult to reach. If you use a lot of shortcuts that are built into programs... any layout other than qwerty sucks. Keyboard shortcuts are optimized for qwerty.

 

Hence why I haven't used dvorak for 3 years.
