Second Opinion; Do you hear the coil-whirring/whining??

So I sent my RM550 back to the webshop because it was making a lot of noise, especially during load it made this grating whirring/whining sound.

However, they're claiming it's making no such sound during load tests.

Here a clip, turn the sound up because the microphone on my phone is not very sensitive.

Am I crazy, or are they just deaf as fuck?

I think pretty much most PSU's do that now. My new one does it every now and again my older Corsair HX620w could get loud

Turn it up pretty loud. You're looking for a whirring/screeching sound.

on yes, but if you cannot normally hear it then you might as well ignore it

you have no way of soundlevelling through a microphone and someone's audio setup. Believe me, IRL it's really loud.

Doesn't seem like overly excessive coil whine, and I am pretty sensitive to it. Seems like standard electrical noise (which you most likely hear because the rear of the PSU is facing towards you)

CPU: I7 4790K(4.6@1.252v)                               Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Windowed(Black)           Cooler: CM 212 EVO + NF F12 iPPC

RAM: HyperX Fury 1600MHZ CL10 2x4GB      Storage: Samsung 850 EVO(250GB) + WD Red(2TB)      PSU: Corsair RM750 (and no, it hasn't blown up!)

MoBo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger                      Graphics: MSI GTX 970 TwinFrozr (1494MHZ Core)       OS: Windows 10 Enterprise

Hmm, could it just be the switching technology?

Well funny I said that actually, I'm not sure if my PSU does do it, I cant tell cause the coil whine on the pair of the 970s is terrible!

I hear like an electric shaver running in the background... that's certainly something I'd be annoyed to have... however it doesn't sound like the typical coil whine that I know of...

They dont. Never had coil whine with any of my PSUs, onyl times I EVER get coil whine is when closing heaven, because I get rougly 20K FPS. Coil whine is not damaging, so most places wont take it for RMA.

had an old gateway with a pentium III(very old) the psu had this same sort of noise, stress tested the gpu and cpu for 8 hours and the noise got reduced alot

also had this noise when my LEPA 350watt psu wasnt using a 3 prong plug

I am talking for a RMA, not the retailer.

I meant the fact that PSU's can coil whine lol, they do/can do it, and it isn't necessarily a fault, so I agree there, not all companies will exchange

Yeah, it's apparently not of the excess that they deem it troublesome...

It is to me, but alas, not everyone has (over)-sensitive hearing.
