Do people just not bother researching at all?

While it is common sense to look up something beforehand some may not know where to start or are just confused from they have found. There is no reason to be rude to someone because they don't understand alot about a particular topic. Sometimes people are just posting to get a second opinion to verify that are making a good purchasing decision(happens with me alot). I thought the whole point of this forum was to actually help people, not put them on blast for not doing enough research or not knowing how to phrase their posts/questions better.

I'm not saying we should be rude to such people. Don't get me wrong.

However, when you go to the GPU section (for example) and scroll down on the first page, more often than not, there are multiple 970 vs 390 threads. So to create yet another thread asking pretty much the exact same question(s) - I don't know what to say to that. I used to reply to questions/threads all the time in the GPU section, but I don't bother as much anymore because so many of the questions being asked have been answered countless times.

I'm more just venting a little frustration than anything else.

I can understand if someone doesn't even know where to look and is very new to the PC community, but isn't a quick google search what most people would do anyways? And if they did, would they not see it's a very commonly asked/answered question?

Nope, people just expect to come here, ask a question, get a black and white answer and just buy based on that

Maybe that's part of the problem - because some of these questions do not have "black and white" answers - like X vs Y. They read through a pile of threads where 50% say "go with the X" and 50% say "go with the Y" and they don't find the "definitive answer" they were looking for...

it is thats why research is needed, to find out if it suits your requirements and budget etc

there is no best, unless we are talking performance and budget, but even then there are things that can still define a  purchase

Those who have done some research make more detailed posts. They can give direct reasons why some few components have been selected and why they are considering between just those. Its pretty easy to see from post itself when user has done some checking.

Can confirm that very few people ever double check anything.

Exactly. I personally keep to the General section because of the poor posts quality and I mostly come back for the "experience with non-techies" thread.

I will gladly help someone that has a genuine question or problem, but I will pass on people that are just looking to be spoon fed.
