Do people just not bother researching at all?

MEC-777

Mostly see this in the GPU section of the forums, but I'm sure it's common in other sections/topics as well.

The amount of "970 vs 390" threads and "which brand is best" threads is just staggering. There are so many. If anyone spent even just 1 minute to research such topics, they would easily find these threads and the answers they are looking for. Daily there are new threads asking the same questions.

Do people just not bother searching at all or what?

Sorry, just had to rant a little. :/ Just find it a little frustrating seeing the same threads over and over.

We don't have to do anything. If they are too lazy to search, we can just be too "lazy" to even bother replying to them at all.

It annoys the fuck out of me. I thought that my thread would solve something. It did jack shit.

That thread in particular?

Threads like the one you created are a great idea. But the problem is they need to be stickied. Not everyone reads the stickies, but far more likely to read it as a sticky. Perhaps mods need to be notified of these common questions and add more stickies for these particular topics? Otherwise it gets buried and the cycle continues...

I'm not really reading the forums much anymore because of that. The thread dumping and spoon feeding on here is just off the chart, I personally can't stand people asking questions that can actually be answered FASTER doing a search than making a new thread and waiting for answers.

I often reported threads (mostly because of thread dumping) but when I realized I was spending more time reporting threads than participating in threads I almost stopped coming here. At this point it's completely ridiculous.

What's happening now is:

People post question > people answer > People don't bother searching, post same questions anyways > people still answer (for the most part) > section gets full of same answered threads/questions. Repeat. ;)

One thing I have learned is; more often than not, the time it takes to create a thread asking a question is more or less the time it takes to find the answer after a quick google/forum search. ;) If you still can't find the answer, then you create a thread.

ya

Really the most common thread is "970 or 390?" There's barely any other threads that have identical twins. Maybe also "Intel or AMD?" but that's it.

I used to be quite active here.

no, they don't research, they don't look at posts, they don't read thread titles, video titles, or even watch the video before spewing whatever it is they want.

edit: every single thread about someone wanting to build an ultimate system is also someone playing make believe what if.  Every one.

While it is common sense to look up something beforehand some may not know where to start or are just confused from they have found. There is no reason to be rude to someone because they don't understand alot about a particular topic. Sometimes people are just posting to get a second opinion to verify that are making a good purchasing decision(happens with me alot). I thought the whole point of this forum was to actually help people, not put them on blast for not doing enough research or not knowing how to phrase their posts/questions better.

What gets really bad is Linus posts a video (2 gamers 1 CPU comes to mind) and all of a sudden a bunch of people are wanting to do it. Don't even stop for second to think about whether or not they even have a practical application for it. Or even thinking about the colossal headache of troubleshooting it if something goes wrong.

I kinda figured that people look at the numbers from websites and just didn't really have an understand what they were looking at, and then they ask the forum, and then I go to, probably the same website they were just looking at, and then just help confirmed what they looked at, unless the answer is at the top of my head.

I find the "off topic" threads to be way more interesting (as reflected by my official "post count") and generally don't bother answering questions that could be solved with a simple google search. I prefer explaining how/why something works vice spouting off facts or opinions from the internet.

Even I sometimes find myself in a situation where I want someone to answer.

What bothers me the most in this forum is people reposting in tech news section when the topic they are reposting is on the 1st page of the sub forum... They don't even check the sub forum and blindly post like it would kill them to do 3 more mouse clicks.

I don't really mind people asking which one is better or what to pick. What I don't like is that A) People rely and recommend PCPP as prior source of information B) Seems like nobody knows that manufacturers have most accurate information about their products on their product pages. And I really, really dislike when I see PCPP or webstore link instead of manufacturers product page or just model name for product. Makes my day harder when I just can't Google it.

The fact that its outdated and inaccurate? Just checking minimum/recommended specs or few benchmarks about those game gives more to date and accurate info.
