should i get anothet 960 or swap my current 960 for a 970?

TheGroovyMiner

OK so i have been wondering whether or not to sli my 960 or buy a 970. The performance in benchmarks are very similar to each other as far as i know. Getting another 960 means i Gould get a kit of 8 gbs of ram as well. This is my first post so if I'm in the wrong section sorry!

No it doesn't. In SLI, vRAM is not stacked. You would have 4GB of usable vRAM.

DX12 might allow for vRAM stacking, but as far as I know, we haven't seen any implementation of it yet, so it's not something to base a purchase on.

I would suggest waiting for Pascal and Polaris before making a decision. Either there will be a better offering, or Maxwell prices may drop.

SLI drivers are horrible and I would say sell the 960 and get the 970 do to the compatibility problems you will run into with the pair of 960's.

GPU: XFX RX 7900 XTX

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D

I say dont go SLI and dont go 970. Just wait for new cards. 960 is still powerfull enough for any game at 1080p and new cards are not so far from release.

It depends on which gtx 970 you are buying.

The best one on the market is Zotac gtx 970 extreme core 4gb gddr5.

You can overclock it and get 980ti standard performance easily.

It's even better than the twin frozrs. ;)

You can also buy another 960 and overclock it.

A sli 960=20% more performance than 970 reference.

SLIs are also very unstable and there is more power consumption and heat.

I guess a single 970 or a 980ti if you have the budget is your answer. :)

I think he meant that he could get an additional 8 gigabyte kit of RAM as well- the kind that goes on your motherboard, not VRAM.

Always get the best single GPU you can first then SLI only when you already have that GPU. Yes there are exceptions like getting a good deal and etc.

Either solutions are bad atm; pascal (nvidia) is due for may and polaris (amd) for june/july; wait and get a newer gen card it will destroy the 970 or a 960 sli

You probably bought a 960 because you're on a budget, save some cash and get a 1060 or a 1070 (if you want to stick to nvidia) your money will be of way better use (wait for cards benchmarks first ofc); and if new generation is not that great get a 970 cause it will be dirt cheap after new generation release.

Thanks For The Reply I Will Save More And Wait For Pascal. I Also Need A New CPU As My 6300 Is Going To Bottleneck Some Games When i Upgrade.

Thanks Again!
