True that. It's very relaxing just to go through the motions, soldering motors, putting together the frame, flying it, etc. It's loads of fun.

well even if youre not building the drone you need to have the tools

because you WILL crash and you WILL need to repair stuff yourself

so repairing would be a lot easier if you built it yourself and know how everything goes together, because no, you cant RMA a drone because you crashed it

There's a lot of pretty good, cheap ones on E-bay. If you want to get more into hobby electronics, @iamdarkyoshi will tell you to get a 3 in 1 hot air rework station and soldering iron. I wish I had one before I wrecked my Naze 32... RIP in peace.

For a screw driver, I think most quad frames use M3 bolts, but some are different. Doesn't hurt to ask the manufacturer of the frame to find out. If you're flying little FPV quads like mine, you will also need an  M5 wrench to bolt down the props on your motors.

Get a QX350 if you don't want to build your own: http://www.bladehelis.com/350QX3/

That would be a good choice for AP. Blade is great at making beginning to intermediate level RC vehicles, although you should probably get a hubsan x4 to practice flying and learn the controls.

I have just learned that the phantom 2 vision plus and the standard edition phantom 3 are hella cheap

Yeah they want an AP platform.  They said that in their post.  The QX350 is actually a very good platform to learn on, as it has many different flight modes ranging from auto leveling and attitude limits to a no limit sport mode.  If they are looking for an AP platform to start flying with, and firmly believe that the QX350 is the right choice.  Hubsan X4 is most definitely not an AP at all.

I'm saying Hubsan to learn and not crash an aircraft that costs a couple hundred dollars. But also keep in mind that DJI is much more popular thus increasing support and the community of other DJI users.

Okay, but they are asking for an AP platform.
