Why is it called X80

adnank77

Was wondering about the rumors of the Pascal GPUs ..

If rumors are true, then the next flagship will be called X80 instead of 1080 ..

I think I know the reason of such name ..

This is the 10th Gen, so typically it should have the number 10 in it ..

However, labeling a high-end as 1080 might give wrong impression that it's meant for 1080p Resolution .. This could send a wrong message which might make the card look less than it is ..

Hence, they decided to use the Roman number 10 which is .. surprise .. X

I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX and X

So X80 is actually 1080 written in smart way ..

Just a thought :)

This is exactly why

calling it the 1080 would be VERY bad

Plus its boring to just go "new release, bigger number" until we reach 1 000 080Ti. Gotta get creative!!

They can start the numbers again , or maybe start a new scheme all together

or X280, X380, X480, etc

I wonder what they'll come up with. It would be quite a generations to remember if naming scheme would switch every gen.

They have done it before, when we got the 9800GT, then they started again at 280 etc

so I imagine X280 will be the next stop

And right as we hit the year 2100 they will release the greatest video card ever created... the gtx 9800.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

I don't care how they name it, as long as it will bring some new feature and improvements.

It can be called GTX Potato xD
