New PC build $1500 - $2000

Arixl

My friend is looking into getting a new PC for gaming, he wants to be able to run dark souls 3 (when it comes out), dayZ, PoE and other games on 60 frames high / ultra setting 500gb Hard drive, it's mostly going to be used just for gaming, so decent processor, ram and card.

No, his old machine was a laptop, and he wants a desktop.

by 2k you mean 1440p?

1440p screens are starting to get affordable now, prices are near similar to 1080p panels :P

4k on the other hand is still up there lol

i wouldnt recommend gaming on 4k anyway, the fps is horribad on one gpu now and two gpu just sucks

sucks while you stutter yourself to death in game and sucks money out of your wallet

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YNpNXL This should fit your needs. If you really want to you could switch to a 980 but to me its a waste of money. (Btw its a all blacked themed build)

Reliable $550 Starter PC (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KGgpZL) *Just waiting for someone to need help with there ram so I can make a downloadmoreram.com joke*

prefer colour accuracy, or refresh rate+response time?

refresh rate + response time = for fast paced games like shooters

colour accuracy = for most other genre

colour accuracy (IPS):

the colour is accurate from most angles (duh)

slightly lower response time

good for casual gaming

fine for casual fast paced gaming (plays FPS, but casually)

good visuals (eye candy)

genre suitable for this type of panel: MMORPG, RPG, Visual novel and tons more

refresh rate + response time (TN):

colour is only accurate when your stare at it straight on, colours shifts slightly when you view it even slightly off angle, depends on monitor for how much it shifts

fastest response time (less delay between your action and your action being showed)

good for competitive gaming (lets you react faster than your enemies)

recommended for FPS shooters

good response time + comes with higher refresh rate (smoother animation)

genre suitable for this type of panel: FPS, Moba, RTS, any games that require lightning fast reaction i guess

typical IPS panel have 5ms response time and have a refresh rate of 60hz, fine for most people

typical TN panel have 1~2ms response time and have refresh rate of 100,120 and 144hz, good for competitive people

so what kind of panel do you want? LOL

close! but there're still things you can improve ;)

Spoiler

1) an average consumer doesnt need wd black, only those professional content creators who use the disk as a scratch disk does, though they use SSDs now

2) the gigabyte r9 390 isnt that great, though i myself dont mind the slight difference between brands of gpus

3) that power supply is "okay", there are better ones out there, you can check this list to find out more about power supplies

its good to learn, i myself learnt how to build system like this and by watching other people on this forum xD

the gigabyte r9 390 can be swapped for a sapphire/msi/xfx r9 390, though it doesnt really make much of a difference really

and the power supply is "okay" like i mentioned, you can check out the list i linked in my previous post to read more about psu tier
