Yeah, i went with a god damn Opteron. Atleast it has 12 cores, and is 20% better than a 4790K. Beacuse of this i had to increase the price from 1000$ to 1500$, beacuse of the server board, and server boards are so god damn expensive and good. Like 400$ for a board. With 16 RAM slots and dual-CPU's, and max. 256 GB of memory. Probably comparable to 2011-3 v2.

You'd get better gaming performance on the 4790k

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

Wow... Interesting! I have two questions though as I am completely ignorant on the AMD server side of things. 1. What is the single core performance (although I don't know if this will be for gaming at all) 2. Can the motherboard function with only one cpu in it? If I remember correctly, I don't think the intel servers can function with only one cpu populated.

actualy the system will blow, AMD cpu needs a lot of power and this one is a server cpu so a 550W psu with 390X and AMD opteron aren't going to work. plus CM elite psu are bad

This is just not a good build at all... unless you're trying to make a pizza warmer like Linus then this is a waste of money... for $1500 you can get a 6700k and 980ti which would out perform the shit out of this machine. Please go back to the drawing board. Thank you.

For the same price as the opteron you can get a 5820k which is faster, or dual used 8 core xeons. This is the same as a 12 core 8350. Its not that fast. Its about the same as 1366 in speed.

Preforms like a 12 core 2.7ghz 8450, or about the same as a 4790k in multithreaded stuff and about the same as a celeron in single threaded stuff. Its about 5 years old now. Most dual socked boards run fine with one cpu.

Noctua NH-D15 > H110i GTX  in looks, and silence. Performance is also comparable, and it's cheaper.
