Enough Vram ?

MadManMarsBar

Hi guys

so ive seen the requirements for BF4 and it recommends 3GB vram , but will 2gb Vram be enough for single moniter 1080p ? , ill be upgrading before bf4 comes out to a 680 , im just wondering whether to get a 2gb model or a 4gb model :)

thanks in advance :)

Yes, it should be enough. I would go for 4gb if you can because games are much more likely in the future to take up more and more RAM. 2GB is not enough already for some games today.

I really don't think you would need 3gb vram maxed out at 1080p. That's just a guess, though.

(Battlefield 3 took about 1.4gb vram maxed out at 1080p)

İ was shocked by that when i saw 3gb for 1080p if the price of the 4gb model is not more than 50$-30$ than dont risk it and get the 4gb model

2GB will be enough, but not to max it. A 4GB card doesn't cost so much more, so go with a 4GB. Games will start utilizing more VRAM soon.

Good luck, topic.

Thanks everyone for the input , i just thought of another question , can i SLi a 4gb model and a 2gb model, the same cards but different size vram , i would have the 4gb card as the output obviously but would it work ?

I barely use 2.5gb of vram maxed out ultra everything+ max AA in 5760x1080, I really doubt bf4 will take 3gb lol

yes, you can SLI RAM different cards, just not different series. the SLI will be as

strong as your weakest card and the RAM will revert to lowest amount of RAM.

so your 2/4GB SLI will be a 2GB SLI with a large buffer that will not be utilized

as much as the prior 2GB.

Agreed. @ 1080P 2GB SLI is perfect. 4GB cards at 1080P is a waste of money.

so would 2x 2gb gtx680's max BF4 without running out of Vram ?

it is still a 2GB buffer.. so yeah, it'll prolly trounce it pretty bad if running multi-display

and might manage it on single 1080 display with some decent frame-rate showing.

it'll really depend if the game is using GPU or CPU or both for its processing power.

so most of this is conjecture until the retail version is released and any/all patches

distributed.

Damn, that sounds like the 770 Lightning I've reserved wouldn't be able to really max out BF4 & Arkham's Origins on 1200p..:/

I'd go for the 2GB card @1080p. Unless you are running SLI on surround, you won't use more than 2.5GB of VRAM in all games on the market today.

You should be fine with 2GB @1080p

- Considering NG consoles will have 5Gb or so avaible for both Main and Graphic memory
- Consoles verision will store more data on ram to compensate for bottlenecks while reading/writing data (br and hdd)

So on pc, with ssd or faster hdd, should be optimized to occupy less vram, only what's really needed

(Yes, we have to take into account NG consoles)

Yea but many of us know that 256bit bus can't do much with 4Gb

yea... idk, interesting place to be right now, but i honestly think - in the risk of sounding silly - getting more is better :|
