there are tons of things you can do with raspberry pis i know a guy who made an automatic disk writer (an arm fed cd into the writer) it was pretty cool. I was going to make a blimp drone with mine but know i just use it as a second pc for when i am working on mine so i can keep up with the forum and post pictures ect.

Probably the cheapest office PC you can get honestly. Especially since it can run a full version of Ubuntu Mate. You could probably make a pretty good NAS with it too.

If you want a real desktop replacement (minus gaming) then an ODroid C1 or C2 is your best bet. They perform a lot better than Raspberry Pis in basically every scenario. The only thing that the Raspberry Pi can do better from what I can tell is power usage (2.9 watts vs 4.1 watts) and wireless performance (but the 1Gbps port in the ODroid destroys the 100Mbps port on the Raspberry Pi). The ODroids support Android also which I use for my HTPC since the Plex app runs much better on my C1 than it does on my Intel Atom netbook (Windows).

Mine is a web server. If you go that route, use Ubuntu 14.04 as OS and Apache (duh) as web server.

I try to answer the best I can.

I'm currently in the process of making mine into a portable, solar powered Doomsday Computer with built in gieger counter, HAM Radio, and every other sensor I can find and figure out... So far I have the Pi, but you have to start you Life on the Command Line somewhere.

I agree if you dont know yet what to do with it, just wait till the idea pops in your mind.

And dont think always in house, you might want to add it to your car or something, i decided to make a sensor in our water tank on our boat.

So we can finally digitally see how much we used and began with and how much we have left ofcourse. on 1 control center.

Quote or mention me if not feel ignored
