Did i get 'em?

If you're Australian and this offends you I'm sorry, but it is true. Higher wages directly translates to higher prices, but I'm so tired of people complaining about stuff. I have a friend that lives in Aus and he complained to me all the time how much cheaper things were here, but he made like 22$ an hour mowing lawns.....

i know right.. you're lucky to make like 5$ an hour doing that here lol

OT:

I completely understand people complaining if they make the same we do or less, and prices are more. But if they make over 2 times what we make, and still complain about prices.... thats just ludicrous

Again im not trying to offend anyone, it just frustrates me that it seems anywhere in the world, people that have tons of benefits over others still complain lol.

Then again I guess thats human nature seeing as im complaining about people complaining LOL

Interesting.... The average tip in America is between 15 and 20%. Australian workers will only get tipped in extremely expensive restaurants usually.... Tips can go a long way.

That's not to say that Australians like myself aren't complaining for no reason, all our money goes to healthcare and other background services such as prisons so we tend not to notice how well we have it

it costs much more here because there are no big manufacturers here in australia, everything has to be shipped there fore adding to the costs.

i compared the system that i bought from australia costed me about $1600 and another system from new egg. same thing but is 300-400 dollars cheaper.

and plus the US is a much bigger country and has more stores compared to australia who are constantly competing for the best price. (australia is much smaller and a lot of stores try to rip you off)

hence, there are ups and downs to both sides.

The higher average Australian wage is actually caused by the fact that the highest wage earning Australians earn a vast amount more Of a percentage of wages than in other countries, making it seem as though the average wage is higher.

'We have higher wages, therefore higher prices' is complete bullshit

what... you literally just said you make more money lol also I never said average wage, I said minimum wage lol

Minimum wage isnt all that high, about 52 cents US more than the US. Nowhere near enough to justify us paying anywhere between 50-100 percent extra on most items.

plus what I said was that the highest 10 percent of wages earn much more than the average wage and push up the average wage and give a false indication of earnings in Australia. Its the same in every country but its much more prominent in Australia.

If you were to take out the top 10-15 percent of wages in every country you would get a much more accurate representation of earnings in each country.

If I remember correctly, someone in the U.S government was trying to pass a bill that would bring minimum wage up to $22 USD an hour.

net - 100 month

electricity -300 month

rent - 2000 month

food - 1000 month

40k a year just there, i wonder if those things alone would cost more than minimum wage in the US

or try paying 20 bucks for smokes

this is why we whine

There isn't really much justification to why we pay much more for the same things

It's got to boil down to our lack of buying power. Distributors only sell to Aus stores therefore they can't sell as many units (as US distributors) and so charge more so they can make a buck. Already having a high cost of living makes these prices seem not that unreasonable. Obviously this doesn't always apply and you know they are jacking prices because they can get away with it.

lol capitalism at its best right here. higher prices are a direct result of inflation. the value is the same in AUS as it is in the US. the only difference is the corresponding numbers.

Just to sum up a bit, the average wage people actually earn here isn't as high as numbers indicate due to false inflation of figures from the top 10-15 percent of earners, which is a pretty well documented issue. And I think any Aussie could tell you that a workplace willing to hire somebody for a low wage job is going to do it off the books and are going to pay you less than minimum wage.

There isn't really much justification to why we pay much more for the same things

we are not talking about average wages.........

Glad I'm not the only one that went wtf the moment they found out the min wages in Australia. In the states to get the Australian minimum $16 an hr wage they can get by working at Mcdonalds or something, you'd have to have either A) a degree B ) experience or C) connections. Working at Mcdonalds here, you'll be making about 7-8 an hr.

Manages at McDonalds in popular areas can make $16-$25 an hour in the US.
