Posted March 10, 2016 No surprise here. FX-8320 at stock frequencies, 16 GB (2x8) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL10 Corsair Low Profile something, Sapphire 7770 Ghz edition (will upgrade to Polaris 10 in a couple of months, or maybe I'll wait until end of year for Polaris 11) I'm surprised it uses so little cpu (it hovers around 10-15% on this eight core cpu, but uses mostly 4 threads as far as I could see in task manager)
 Posted March 10, 2016 Can anyone tell me why my score is particularly low in comparison to people who have similar rigs to mine? could it be my OS? The GPU seems to be cause of fail I am debating on ordering a new one but not sure when to. Was hoping the next line would be released "soon". I have a 1440 ultra-wide monitor I just ordered that my gpu wont even be able to run. Was hoping I could wait it out till the new lineup, will likely have to upgrade my PSU as well. Posted March 10, 2016 Rig name: my desktop (not an "official" name though)Cpu: Intel Core i7-4790KGpu: Intel HD 4600 GraphicsRam: 32GB G.Skill Ares DDR3-1600 (2x 2x8)Score: 0 Partially bound by the CPU? But I think I saw a couple other posts in here that were using the 4790K and they were fine. (I didn't look to see if they were OC'd though, I'm running at stock right now.) They did have somewhat better GPUs than me, of course. Yes, my GPU definitely needs to be upgraded. I'm hoping to hold out until the Pascal / Polaris ~$300-330 cards are released before I spend much on a GPU. (If some driver crash issues I periodically have persist, though, I may consider getting an older card off ebay to hold me over, like at most a GTX 580, maybe a GTX 280 or 9800 GTX+ or something like that, anywhere from $25 or so for the 9800 to $70 for the 580, or so.) But, I don't really plan to do VR anytime soon. As for upgrading the CPU ... I can't really effectively do that with this socket. Yes, I know there's the i7-5775C, which does have a better iGPU, but the CPU is actually somewhat lower performing than my 4790K from what I understand. I think if I was going to upgrade something while keeping this motherboard (which I plan to keep for the next 5-7 years or so unless something breaks or whatever), I'd be better off upgrading the GPU. Even so, I wonder how my laptop would do with this ... I'd guess most people's laptops aren't as good as their desktop, right? Wow, watching it do it on my laptop, it's a heck of a lot smoother on that than on my desktop. I wonder if it has a chance of touching 90 fps on it? (My desktop appeared to be around 10-12 fps or so. For comparison, if it matters, my desktop gets 1-3 fps in FireStrike, and my laptop gets about 15-40 fps, iirc.) I'll edit this post from the laptop to post the screenshot and results. Okay, now posting from my laptop... Rig name: my laptop (not an "official" name though) Cpu: Intel Core i3-6100 Gpu: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M Ram: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4-2133 SODIMM (1x8) Score: 2.6 Well whaddya know, my laptop actually beats my desktop!! I'm pretty sure the laptop's GPU is considerably better than the desktop's sorry excuse for one. It does look like it says it could be improved on,though. Well, my laptop does have an MXM slot so I could put a GTX 980M in it. (It doesn't have room for the laptop version GTX 980 though.) I was thinking I'd wait for a couple generations before I upgrade the GPU, then get something like a GTX 1280M or something if I could afford it then. I am a bit surprised that it says my laptop's i3 is better than my desktop's i7, though. Sure, the laptop's CPU is 2 generatons newer, but the desktop has twice the cores and a bit higher clock frequency, and has turbo boost and is unlocked. I wonder if the iGPU was dragging my desktop down? Speaking of laptop upgrades, I also do plan to eventually upgrade to a Kaby Lake i7-K or Cannonlake i7-K, or whatever is the last i7-K to fit in LGA1151. I'll likely wait until the next generation is out though so I can get the CPU for like $250 at MicroCenter (I'm about an hour and a half away from the one in Tustin, CA) or $300 at Newegg on a Black Friday sale.
