I'm programming just fine on a $1200 PC. bro.

I use rpi for media center for my old TV, in a sense it's smart now :P Whereas I would have a laptop connected to TV? No thank you... I would go rpi all the way for this rather than anything else.

A 1200$ pc is hardly embedded is it? :P Besides not everyone can afford it.

the videocore IV is pretty beastly tbh - especially considering the price.

Barely faster than the Pi 2, don't expect to run a full desktop experience on this.

WiFi straight out the box is nice though.

What for? You wouldn't be running windows on this. Although I do agree more would have been nice.

Seriously my mobile phone has twice as much RAM, and its ddr3

It can run quake 3, I'm not sure what more you could want from a 35$ device.

-edit- I found out the reason they are keeping it is that it's the only fully open source solution available at this time -/edit-

No, but my brother's phone (which was legitimately 35$) has similar specs (galaxy s4 on craiglist, broken power and volume buttons)

But the raspi3 does not have a built in screen, cell antenna, battery, etc.

The used market obviously doesn't count... used pi 2s are almost free and it will be the same with these.
