GTX v. Radeon?

Sonnix

I've got a few builds myself that I think are pretty good but I'm not sure.  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KY7szy and http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hT9w99

I've heard a lot about how AMD is unreliable and I'm leaving quite a fair bit more toward GTX.  I've heard that a 970 though can record 1080p60fps without any issue.  I'm also wondering if leaving your frame rate to unlimited is bad as I heard it is.  Thanks :D

Will this be able to record 1080p60fps (minecraft) smoothly (game running about 60fps)?

using Shadowplay

you should have no issues recording

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

AMD isn't unreliable, their drivers just take a while to mature and as such older cards may have equal performance to a newer card.

nVidia cards reach maturity much, much sooner and then don't get updates.

Your 980ti build looks excellent. Regardless of AMD vs NVIDIA, a single GPU is always the best way to start a new build. At that pricepoint NVIDIA is generally a stronger choice.

Shadowplay does not work with Minecraft.

If you have wiggle room in your budget, I would suggest http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-950-256GB-PCIe-NVMe/dp/B015SOI392/ Although the 850 Evo will be plenty good if not.

I think it would be best for you to spend more on the CPU and upgrade to the i7 in favor of those extra threads since Vulkan was just released today and we can now expect major improvements on ALL platforms.
Also, there is no way to make up for the difference in cost if you choose to upgrade later...  unlike the GPU, if you must cut down on it.

Ok...  I may be going mad:

What about X99?  it would cost you similarly but allows for a HUGE upgrade path vs Skylake and with far more cores should you choose to go for a better CPU.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

The OS is like a kind food, Try it before saying if you like it or don't.
