Surface eats iPad market share in the Federal Government of the US at rapid rate.

GoodBytes

Based on Gouvini measurements, the Microsoft Surface sales is penetrating at a very quick rate the US Federal Goverment. While still a fraction, Apple iPads had in 2012, 98% market share (again, looking only at the Federal Goverment), and now it dropped down to 68% for 2015. Android devices also got some gains, although only minor, reaching only 11%, compared to the 25% from the Surface.

The report says:

Quote
The first-to-market may have initial success, but maintaining market leadership requires adapting the product to meet customer needs. Windows tablets have eaten into iPad’s market share by rapidly integrating into PC-based workflows and adapting to customer requirements.

The article states:

Quote

The study found most of the tablets were being used for field work. The Surface tablets were also much more durable, being the favourite of the  U.S. Customs and Border Protection, who purchased $1 million worth of tablets,  “illustrating that rugged tablets are in demand to operate in harsh conditions.”

The change can also be attributed to Apple negligence in catering to the enterprise space. What do you think?

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Except for the fact that more and more Federal agencies are switching to iPhones to replace their aging Blackberry phones.

Federal government agencies also tend to have very specific requirements for any IT resource they procure. So much so that it can take months to get something approved. This can include things like running specialized software, approving devices to store sensitive data, maintaining compatibility with older software, etc. This tends to lead to a more Windows dominated environment. As more agencies adopt wireless resources, Windows is the clear winner for compatibility. Although I suspect most (if not all) of these specific Surfaces get Windows 7 installed on them.

Yea, it has nothing to do with the fact that iOS is useless for anyone who wants to get any serious work done. Derp.

Because iPads are not professionally useful outside of picture slideshows and some few proprietary DJ equipment. My school district rents them out and all the instructors in charge of them always say it's better to use our phones for the assignment if we have android or to bring a laptop or chromebook.

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P

@GoodBytes there's a typos in your title.

On topic: COOL! I'm replacing my terrible laptop with a Surface in like a month or 2.

You're one to talk. Last time i checked the real spelling of the word was "Cloaked" not "Kloaked".

Not true at all. If I need to do some web development or server admin work whilst on the move and I don't have my laptop to hand, my 4G iPad is a godsend.
