would you trade i5-6500 +  gtx 960 g1 4gb to sacrifice CPU to i5-6400 to get gtx 970 4gb?

this is for full 1080p gaming

yes, i have r9 390 in my store. think to go for them even tho they have higher power consumption but a lot more VRAM?

They will pull around 400-440 watts from the wall while I guess the 970 is around 320-360 Watts, so unless the extra 100 watts makes a huge difference in your electricity bill I don't think it matter much.

if you are welling to bet on the 970 overclocking quite well and don't plan on jumping to higher resolutions from 1080p then the 970 is fine, but generally the R9 390 is the one that gets recommended.

well, just planing to play 1080p for now 'cus u have 1080p monitor. maybe an upgrade in a year or two to 2k monitor, not 4k for sure... i have 550W PSU

Which 550W PSU? And will you upgrade the GPU by the time you jump to 1440p?

Depends on the time frame for the next gpu upgrade but if it's more than a year then the 970 / 390

possibly. but also in a year or two if i even decide for 2k. for now definitely 1080p

Yeah that PSU is quite good and will handle a R9 390 easily.

you wont see much difference between the two processors anyway so i'd go for the second one with an r9 390.

Depends on the game, usually neck to neck. But, if you up the resolution the R9 390 wins.

yea, seen the review. 8GB will be much much better for future games 'cus it has more VRAM

I have the 970 its not the best thing ever sometimes I wish I had more GPU horsepower and/or VRAM!

The i5-6400 + GTX 970 is far far far far far superior. The i5-6400 runs at 3.1 GHz under quadcore loads while the i5-6500 runs at 3.3 GHz, so not a lot of difference. But the GTX 970 murders the GTX 960, it's not even close. The 970 is comparable to 2xGTX 960 in SLI.

well good to know that, thought games would be more effective with 6500 inside
