But if you're gonna OC a GTX 970, you would OC the GTX 980 too, meaning the GTX 970 OC'ed doesn't touch the GTX 980 OC'ed performance..

But anyways, I highly agree with this one.

No fanboy whatever, just thinks it's better value at this moment

Nvidia have better drivers. Shadowplay for example is a good part of Nvidias drivers that is really popular.

The 390 would be the best bang for buck in that regard. Since you can go up to $400 you could get a 390X as stated however. Normally I would suggest getting the most powerful card your budget allows for instead of the best bang for the buck card.

Currently have a GT-630

R9 390 or 390X are the best value atm

You can usually get 390s for around 280$ and they perform better than a 970 in 90% of games
390Xs are almost the same as 980s but 100$ cheaper

Please put that 90% back where you pulled it from. Such an exaggeration. In just about every game being released they still provide the same average fps if you look at the game as a whole.

I'm aware of that. But Shadow play comes with the drivers, hence why Nvidia have better drivers.

They perform like 390x performs like 10% better, but again, it depends if u want to lose 10% of your better performance for better in-game drivers and compatibility.

Drivers come out a few days earlier for new games but other than that it's the same thing. Gone are the days of constant driver issues with AMD. Both vendors have stable drivers now and it's no longer an argument.

OBS is a superior alternative to shadowplay. During my time with it, I've found it finicky and it has had it's fair share of fuck-ups. I much prefer OBS as it wasn't developed on the side as a selling point but as an actual functional piece of software which has much more intuitive user interface and also feels much snappier to use. I've actually removed the GFE suite from my laptop because it was getting on my nerves after the first OS registry corruption it caused.

So there aren't stability issues with 300 series and Fury graphics cards stuttering, covered by multiple users on this forum and Digital Foundry?

Hmmmmm?

Hmmmmm?

When you use the proper driver (something DF don't always do) there are next to none.

What about Nvidia drivers which were killing Dell displays last year? Or the ones that were reducing Kepler performance by 20%? Or the ones that were causing certain laptop GPUs to flat out brick which in turn was the reason for the 361.40 hotfix?

Stop acting like Nvidia's drivers are flawless and face the cold hard truth - both have their issues and neither is currently the obviously superior. I remember around May 2015 people were calling AMD's drivers better.

They both mess up. But Nvidia's is more feature rich than AMDs. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, but its something to consider.

Digital Foundry is always careful to run the latest drivers, they state this in their videos if you watch past the parts that support your bias.

Kepler reduced huh?

And please, for the love of gaming, quit with the laptop shit. You're on a laptop because your AMD card took a shit, and still you pound their drum.

Besides CUDA there's nothing really. PhysX can run off a CPU which a modern i5 is capable of. Advanced PhysX which requires the Nvidia chip on the PCB is used only in 3 or 4 games such as Metro LL and few others.

GameWorks is not really a feature but a nuisance to all users as it pretty much destroys performance in games. Most of my friends actually turn it off despite having 960s and 970s since the fps drops ruin their experience.

You can say the features are a nuisance, but that doesn't stop the fact that Nvidia still have more features which is the point I'm making....

Are you forgetting GPU Open? The bigger library AMD released for everyone to use without charging for it?

I already ran the new Tomb Raider 2016 with Tress FX enabled. I lost 2 fps on my 860M and 1 fps on my 280. With Hairworks I went from 50fps in Witcher 3 to 34 on my 860M and from 60 to 40 on my 280. GameWorks is toxic and is definitely not something we should be praising.

64x Tessellation (the default) is absurd when even 8x looks exactly the same and performs 8 times better. Sadly for many, only AMD users can change the multiplier thanks to the AMD driver utilities. Nvidia users are screwed out of their performance if they want hairworks

New record in misinformation. Need a pic of this for the fridge xD

You can adjust the tessellation, Nvidia offer sliders showing the difference, which is there.
