Can you run a AMD and a Nvidia card for video rendering?

I was wondering if you could run a AMD card as a primary card but then use a Nvidia card to help speed up video rendering?.

I got A HD6950 and i can get a used 660Ti, or should I just use the 660Ti as my GFX card instead.

Are you talking about crossfire/sli? Or actually switching out the card every time you want to video render?

Yes, it should work fine.

I believe Linus did it in a Video before.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

Setups like this usually work if you know how. I would actually use unRAID and have one be the system and the other a rendering "server", but only if my specs could support it well.

having both running but the Nvidia one would just be used to help speed up video rendering

nope

that was a very long time ago

a few months after he did that video nvidia drivers were updated and now an nvidia GPU will not work at all if there is AMD software or drivers on the system

I do think that it could work. Go for it and see what happens. I am unaware of any risks.

Yes, it should work fine.

I believe Linus did it in a Video before. I thought that was only for PhysX accelerators + AMD Cards...

nvidia drivers will not be enabled if there is an AMD GPU in the system

this video

and no, it no longer works

nvidia updated their drivers to block this just a few months after linus released the video

That's for gaming...

OP asked for rendering...

If hes in Vegas should be as simple as selecting the card you want to accelerate with...

unless he wants to turn off the PC and take out his AMD GPU every time he wants to game with an nvidia card lol
