Audio hum and beeping...

TommyF

So a few days ago I plugged my Sony MDR-1A headphones into the front audio out and got a LOT of hum and beeping but when I plug the headphones into the back of my desktop I get perfect audio. I am wondering what's wrong?
I want to use my front audio because it's around 50cm away which means I don't have to use an extension chord :)

its called EMI

thats what you get when you cross the front panel audio cables over a bunch of power cables behind your motherboard

Oh! So maybe just try to run the audio cable away from all the other cables and see if it works then?

it will reduce it, but it will never be gone since it still crosses over traces on the PCB

the best solution is to use an external DAC or plug a 3.5mm extension into the back of your PC and just plug into that

If that doesn't work, please consult the Audio Interference Troubleshooting Guide. Ask if you have questions or don't know where to start.
