Well the 4790k has more total and more single thread performance so... open and shut case? :)

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

the i7 is faster across the board...around +30% in multi-threaded performance and 50% in single-treaded performance the FX-9590 is nowhere near.

in any case the i7-5820K cost about the same as the i7-6700K and it's a much better chip on a better platform. :)

not to mention that the 4790k is a damn sight cooler than the 9590, so you'll save a ton not having to use a H100 minimum :P

true..but he will spend more for a x99 setup then a skylake setup...skylake is only like 5-10% more then haswell

Gotta be way fucking more than 30% multicore.

with what?  the 4790k?  You definitely do not need a water cooler... but you could add one just for swag :P

well...not really...ATM the 6700K is so expensive in the US that building an equivalent (but better) X99 rig cost the same..the 6700K ATM is a rip off:

ah ok :)

Well, if you are talking comparisons to the 9590 though, the 4790k will more than beat it

no, this is Haswell-E, it's based on haswell but it's a 6 core/ 12 thread CPU (hyper-threading)...broadwell-E is coming for X99 but i doubt it's worth the wait, it will be more expensive as well.

This is really your best bet if you can afford it this i7-5820K CPU is a monster...you should be able to dial in a multiplier of 40 and it will run at 4.0ghz on mostly stock settings maybe a slight bump in voltage to get it more stable but you could even go with a 42 multiplier and still have no issues with the hyper 212...it's very simple and will give you even better performance but the tasks you've listed along with gaming will greatly benefit from a CPU with more cores/threads.
