Any good gaming laptops for around $1500?

LeyDipper

Since I'm in college and well I am a gamer and pc enthusiast I have been looking far and wide on the vast internet for the so called "Best gaming laptop" and since there is the new Skylake refresh and up to a gtx 980m in laptops I think now is an amazing time to truly buy a gaming laptop since ive been stuck with an asus x455ld for the past year and its good for the money, it gets the job done. But what I need is the good stuff, the butter to the bread, I need a good gaming laptop that is powerful enough for all my gaming needs and my heavy work programs(for school work), and well with fancy lights and a decent display :) Anyone know any good Laptops that is worth the money? :)

As a college student myself, I recommend a laptop under 6 pounds if you move around a lot and take it with you.

Thanks guys! And I appreciate the help but I really dont mind about the weight if its a really powerful system :) Also id like it to have a FHD or higher Resolution and well a touchscreen option because I do digital work too.

http://portablepicker.com/ is a great source to use for this. It's run by PCPartPicker and I used it to buy my laptop. It's got some really good search criteria tools you can use to limit your results to laptops you would actually want.

I love this link it helped quite a lot :) and well once I got to the option for a touchscreen model with a Skylake nothing popped up. hahahaha once I removed the touchscreen option AW15R2 and the Acer Predator popped out. So far I'm liking the AW15R2 design but they said that the screen is quite disappointing

Avoid Alienware. I'd suggest looking at the Lenovo Y700, Dell Inspiron 15 7559 and MSI GE62/72 Apache

How come? Is there a particular reason why to avoid alienware? I mean they seem to be putting a pretty competitive pricing on their new lineups. I have looked into the Lenovo Y700 and I dont like the keyboard ive tried it and it doesnt suit my typing style, the Dell Inspiron 15 7559 has quite an ugly look to it. and Yes the MSI GE62 apache I've wanted this one for quite a while and since the skylake refresh I've wanted it even more and I love the keyboard(the colors! O.o) but since the 1500 model here comes only with a GTX 960M and if you upgrade to a 970M they force you to buy an SSD and 16 gigs of RAM(which I dont have the budget for) and unlike the AW15 which is configurable and at 1500 it comes with a GTX 970M.  I'm still very unsure which to go with.

AW laptops have BIOS issues which result in throttling for no apparent reason. It's been the case for several years now

I use the Lenovo AccuType keyboard and I do not understand what you don't like about it :o

Dell one has VERY solid cooling. It may not look good but it WILL keep cool and quiet (same for the Y700). Y-series also use full-copper heatsinks so that's a thing.

MSI one is also solid.

960M is fine, it's a 750 Ti essentially and the 970M is like a 960. The upgrade is definitely noticeable but both will run any single game just fine (Witcher 3 low settings 60fps on my 860M which is a 960M with 100MHz lower clockspeed)

And this problem hasnt been fixed? thats sad... the AW15 looks sooooo good too. :( But there are tons of review saying that the temps is better with the A00 BIOS and they are saying that it keeps the temps at a 80 degrees but using the A02 or A03 BIOS it goes to 90 degrees.

On the Lenovo Keyboard(my friend lent me his Y400 for a few days) and for me personally I find the key travel to be a little to hard for my hands, its a nice feel to the hands but I personally found it hard to game on. Hahaha :D

I really want to go with MSI but they are offering horrible deals for me in my country currently. :(

AW laptops aren't as good at keeping cool as the bulkiness would have you believe. The Aluminium heatsinks transfer heat 35% slower than Copper ones so a copper heatsink 2/3 of the size of the one in the AW machine will yield the same results. The Y-series have quite large full-copper HS and thus the best temps out of the bunch. Dell 7559 compensates by having larger surface area and more heatpipes. MSI also use lots of heatpipes and copper.

The Y400 keyboard is different. The Y700 is 2 generations newer and is improved (however slightly).

You know my recommendation :)

Just as an example, my Y50's GPU temps at full load with CPU at 40% load are around 68-70*C with the CPU at around 75-80*C

EDIT: The industrial-design Sunon dual-fan pulls its weight :D

They use Aluminium? Thats a bit of a step back  How did you know they use Aluminium instead of copper?

Thanks for your recommendation!  ;) I'll add that to my choices.

@don_svetlio That's amazing you actually got a Y50 heatsink and for me personally I go crazy when I see laptop internals because I just love knowing how these things look on the inside. Thank you so much for all your replies ^_^  really appreciate it! :)

@don_svetlio  ASDGFHAKDJK! AWESOME! But no m.2 ssd expansion like MSI or AW?

Y700 has an M.2 slot

Y50 only has 1 mSATA slot
