Look at my Grandpas speakers I found.

Kenna

Hello there guys, i am currently staying in japan with my grandma. My grandpa who has been deceased for about 10 years now, was into his classical music and audio gear, One of the rooms in my grandmas house, was sourcely used by grandpa for listening to his music, and until now i have never been really intrested in it( Iam 18 now).

THe speakers he had are are a pair of Tannoy stirling HE speakers, and i personally think they are the best speaker i have heard. I will admit that i have never really listened to expensive speakers only headphones. The speakers are paired with a Mccormack power drive dna 0.5 a and a quad66 preamp and cd player.

My grandma being the lovely lady that she is said I can have it all, if I organise and pay for shipping back to Australia where I live.

What are your guys thoughts, is this something I should do. Again I have very little knowledge about speakers.

The speakers weigh 23kg each, the amp another 15kg ish and the speakers have a volume of 85 litres.

And this, boys, is why you dont buy cheap audio stuff.

If those speakers are in the same priceclass than this amp, you pretty much got some High end stuff here.

Audioquality doesnt get old or bad, it stays the same. High end 30 years ago still high end today ;)

If you dont mind the vintage look, go for it. These babys should last you for even some more decades ^^

(Btw, i guess.. you'll have to spend like 2000-3000 dollar or more to get a similar "class". Of course, its not that comparable, because sounding etc always get different.

Edit: That Rubber around the drivers (sorry, dont know the term in english) looks still pretty healthy.. Damn, for how long did your grandpa had these? he seemed to treated them like a baby

They will definitely last for 20+ more Years if you dont treat them bad

If you're doing to pay for shipping back to where you live, then it better be in good hands cause you don't want idiots throwing those around. The other is to just leave it where it is. In one of the pics, is that your grandpa? :D

Ah, Yes The picture of my Grandpa is in the 4th photo, the one of the amp.

I am aware of the dangers of shipping the items back home. Ill make sure i find a company that is reputable. The Insurance cost of shipping these speakers would be pretty high wouldnt it.

Nice (looking) speakers, somewhat terrible placement. Also, probably have to be careful with the bass, else all grandmas knick-knacks go to the floor.

I personally love the sound of a speaker sandwiched between a wall and a large cabinet. nice and boomy. /s

Space isnt really an issue back home in Australia, it is just getting them there that i am abit worried about.

Anyone here have experience shipping Speakers, or similar large valuable items overseas before, and if so can you give me a few pointers on how to go about it.

Nice.  I have a set of towers from the 1980s, my grandfather's as well.  Four 8", two 4", and four 1.5" in each box.  I remember he paid thousands for the system back then.  The foam on the 8" speakers is ruined, on one of the towers.  The other is fine.  KLA acoustics.  I could not find a picture of them  :(
