It's only 1.5GB, probably 2-3 minutes at most if you have a USB 3 port.  Come on, is this kind of question really necessary?

If it's USB 2 probably a few extra minutes.

What about moving it from drive D to the desktop? (comparing my speeds to what is expected now)

USB 2.0

well every USB has a different speed...so kinda hard to tell

but the transfer speed will be bottlenecked by the USB, not HDD speed

If you're copying a file from an internal HDD (D: drive) to your desktop which is most likely on the C: drive, it will also take a few minutes.  1.5GB is NOT a large file.

I see. I was honestly moving stuff around and when it took 2 mins or so to move it I panicked for a bit thinking "performance degrading" then I saw the file and remembered it's a 5400RPM drive :D

Well, lets say you have a fairly decent internal hdd wich is capable of >30MB/sec read speeds, and your 5400rpm drive usb drives isnt absolutly terrible. In this case you will be bottlenecked by the 30MB/sec usb 2.0 connection, so to be safe we will assume a average transfer speed of 25MB/sec.

Maths:

1500 (MB)/25 (MB/sec) = 60(sec)

60 seconds or 1 minute (in good conditions).

So i would assume 1-2 minutes.

I really hope i did the maths right...

There are some things that may slow the affect of files to be copied/transferred from one location to another, aside from the bandwidth of the storage mediums (SATA, USB, PCIe, etc.).  But for data that is 1.5GB in total that difference is very small.  There will be a slight difference of transfer time between moving a single file that is 1.5GB in size vs. 1000 files that add up to 1.5GB total size.  Because on a HDD, 1000 files might be spread across different sectors of the magnetic platters while a single file could be located in adjacent sectors.

I'm just very paranoid, too paranoid for my own good honestly xD

Just tested copying from D to C - 62sec. Sounds right I guess
