OPINIONS welcome! please share yours....

So the new skylake xeons are better than ever and also still cheaper than $300 sooooo....

Should I buy this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117613&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Processors+-+Server-_-N82E16819117613&gclid=CPf1q7eapcoCFcQlgQodhmEGjw&gclsrc=aw.ds

keeping in mind there is only one quote consumer grade "gaming" mobo from Asus that i would buy with it in order to get a quad-core hyper-threaded cpu for more than $100 cheaper than an i7 6700k

I wont oc either chip and am not going for an sli setup

and the build is used for gaming, anamation + video rendering and would like to stream at some point so this seems like a good budget option

What do you think?

is it more trouble than its worth????

do you think that the there is a better upgrade path if wanted in the new xeons

I think there is no upgrade path as a Xeon is a i7 with slightly lower clockspeed and no iGPU. This is as far as it goes. Going to a 4790K or 6700K with a H or B board would yield 5% performance AT BEST

You understand it will not work on a Z170 board, right? Meaning you must buy a C23X  board. This also means you wont be using overclocked memory, as most of those C23X boards (not all, some do support OC'd memory) only allow stock 2133mhz memory to be used, which may have an impact on gaming performance in some titles. You also can't OC on these boards, even if you wanted to.

Skylake Xeon's are not in the same category as Haswell Xeons, as with Haswell Xeons, you can at least swap it out to an unlocked i7 if you wanted to later on, where as Skylake Xeons, you are locked into a platform that goes nowhere.

That's just my opinion anyways.

If you're near a MicroCenter get a 4790k for 250 and be set for years. Seriously, nothing is going to stress a 4790k for years as far as gaming is concerned.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
