WTF is wrong with my laptop

Tsunami_Scrub

everytime I do something 'demanding' on my laptop Eg.gaming, my laptop decides to turn off. I have tried removing the battery and cleaning out the dust, and I have confirmed that it is a problem with heat as my computer is nearly always over 80 degrees Celsius. Is there anything else I can do before giving up and taking it to a tech support shop.

Help pls

Are you using the laptop on a solid surface? I know a lot of people that use them on their laps, on carpet, or on their bed...

Make sure the laptops vents have plenty of space for airflow and are unobstructed.

yes ofc you only do it if its outside of warranty period. if someone cant figure that out then they should take it to someone who will do it for them

If it's still inside warranty, the laptop needs to be returned to the place of purchase (1st) and then using the manufacturer customer support (2nd).

since he didnt even tell what laptop he has... what do you think manufacturer customer support will tell you? send it to them ofc. thats gonna cost alot. no manufacturer is going to support/suggest anyone fixing their laptop alone, never, ever.

If the laptop is under warranty, 90% of the time the manufacturer will cover shipping costs unless it's user error. Hence why I recommend he take it to the place of purchase first.

As an example:

  • Dell covered pick up and return costs from New Zealand for a hard drive failure.
  • Microsoft covered pick up and return costs from New Zealand for coil whine on the Xbox One console (5 day turnaround to and from Australia!)

yes ofc manufacturer will cover shipping cost and other crap if its under warranty. but if its not under warranty, calling help from manufacturer is expensive. better do it on your own id say.

If it's not under warranty I agree. If you're not sure how to do it, look at iFixit for a tear down.

Otherwise take it to a PC repair shop, they should provide a guarantee on their service so if it fails or they damage your laptop during the process they will repair/replace.
