I have a ton of crappy computers, best way to use them today?

Sell the parts as spares. Then build a fort out of the cases.

10 cpus, 1 gamer.

Yes.

If they accept them. I know of a few instances where charities won't accept old but perfectly operating computers just cos they are old.

A picky charity? Must be getting tons of donations then, in order to be able to decline perfectly working stuff.

Now, I'm assuming you're talking pentium III/IV's, and not intel 8008. because those would be pretty useless, even for basic tasks.

You could:

-eat them

-give them to me

-donate them

-set them on fire

-give them to me

Look at all of those great options :D

I have a bunch of systems with all of them rocking an old Pentium 4 (Except for the one with the first AMD 64 bit processor) and all of them are crap. I have no use for them as of right now and I was wondering if you guys have any other ideas.

Well wait for the next scrapyard wars and maybe you can help Linus win it by selling him your crap at cheap price

I can't remember the specs as it was before I really got into computers, but I can remember they ran XP, were more than capable of word processing and general internet browsing and I think win7 had just been released.

But yeah, real picky, certainly give us a shock.

What is folding?

Something you shouldn't do on pentium 4s if you don't want to triple your power bill for no significant benefit.

That's stupid. Those would've been great to teach elderly people, or just to help less financially stable people stay connected.

Ah well, their loss, they probably underestimated those machines.

create a cluster in Linux!

Personally I would strip them and sell them for parts, parts are worth more than PCs built

Personally I would just recycle them, the performance per watt is so low that you'd be wasting money in electricity trying to use them, would be cheaper if you used them for a year or so to buy a newer used computer. This is why even charities won't take them.

Not necessarily, I tried to get rid of two DDR2 RAM sticks at a CEX store. They told me I'd get 80p in total from them, both.

I would strip all the parts from them and sell individually. They can fetch a fair price if someone needs them.

I really dont see why people say folding, yeah sure its a good project to be working with but there isn't enough power and it would cost a fortune in power, what are these early 2000 CPUs? draw on them is rather high for their performance.

eBay start the sticks at 99p, you got more than the already.

Seriously I have seen DDR2 go for a fair bit for its age, £10 maybe.

CeX are known for ripping people off, they would put that up for £10 at least, there crap at prices and crap with hardware, never sell any PC things to them, get em on eBay!

If you've got any useful data on any of the computers, burn it to disk, then burn the computers, with fire.

I would love to but sadly eBay is kind of not an option for me when it comes to buying since I dont own a card or anything to pay it with. (I am only 14 years of age)

U say that Cex rip people off but surprisingly I managed to get a pentium g620 for just £12. However I have seen some of the prices they ask for so yes, I agree with ur comment :)

I'm on the search for old PC's, you can put them up with tasks like basic web browsing, running a server and such.
