Where to get replacement o-ring fast

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

So I either lost or one of my fittings shipped without an o-ring around the g1/4 attachment. It is this fitting in particular. I'm assuming these are all standard & are interchangeable? Where can I get a replacement really fast? (PPCs is in my state, but all orders will be on hold until the 4th).

Really frustrating. Finally got my loop together after 18hrs or so of work, only to have it leak right at the pump/res while filling it up for the first flush. Now I'll have to disassemble everything to check all the o-rings & wait for a replacement.

You can get one that is the same size at the hardware store store if you don't want to wait, I would bring the old one to compare just to make sure.

Oh man, that would be awesome, I'm within walking distance of one. I'm assuming they'd be in the plumbing section?

Sorry to bring it up again, but does anyone know what the approximate measurements are of a g1/4 o-ring? My local hardware store was closed for the night, but I'd like to have a better idea of what I'm looking for tomorrow.

This looks closest to it, but I don't know how these things are measured (inner or outer diameter).

It seems to be around 40mm dia and 2.5mm in thickness, but they don't specify an ID or OD, if you can ideally bringing one to compare would be good:

I think that's for one of their reservoirs actually, not g1/4. I'll be sure to bring one, but it's always better to know what you're looking for before spending an hour comparing tiny o-rings  :D

Haha good point 40mm, wasn't thinking straight there  :D

Here someone measured a bitspower G1/4 oring, last post on that page, the total OD should be 14mm not sure how he got 16mm possible from stretching on the fitting:

snip

haha no worries  :)

Thanks for that, it looks like they have several that are close in size (measured in point whatever inches though, why can't the U.S. just use the metric system already??). It should still work if it's *slightly* off though, right?

As long as it's thick enough and fits well on the section behind the threading it shouldn't be a problem if it's just a tad larger or needs a little bit of stretch.

2.4mm thick x 10.3mm diameter works great.  Slightly thinner and wider (2.0mm x 11 mm) might work ok, but I use 2.4x10.3 for everything (I replace all original gaskets with Viton rubber ones).  Lot's of gasket seal.

Great! Very much appreciated!

Thanks so much guys! Soooo ready to get on with it. I am grateful that at least it was one of the fittings outside of the case (where it couldn't damage anything) & it happened straight away (none of the loop was filled at all). Just checked the rest & they all seem to have theirs (didn't even have to take the whole thing part like I thought I would). Hopefully I'll have a successful trip to the store tomorrow & my rig will be underwater in time for the new year!!

Good to hear @saab_gobbler that it is solved. Just thought I would share the best piece of advice I have ever had coming to watercooling.

Always get more fittings than you actually think to need. It is a small cost compared to the frustration of not having enough ;)

Went to the store & got some o-rings! Got the two closest sizes I could find just to be safe, ended up going with the smaller of the two. It stretched around no problem & it sits at the same height as the original (the bigger one was much too thick, wouldn't sit in the groove at all). Got everything fitted up, started filling the res and... NO LEAKS!! =D Right now the loop has been running for about a half hour, just doing my flushes/leak testing, but so far so good!

Thanks for the hardware store idea @W-L , it didn't even occur to me! Happy new year! =D

I went with '#7' from lowes (#8 was too big). I'm at about 12 hours with no leaks, mayhems pastel is in the loop, 10/10 would o-ring again  :)

Edit: this was for my phobya fittings, ymmv
