Corsair C70 Liquid Cooled Modding Build [Updated Pics 9/30/13]

dasr1985

So I'm starting a project, just transplanted all my hardware into an old Antec 900 case... and wow it's cramped.

These pics aren't the best, shot them with a phone but I'll take care of that problem as the build goes on.

Two pictures of the rig, the third picture is of the start of my modding.

I'm gonna leave the details out for now, I'll let you guys use your imagination. More pics to come, just waiting on parts :D

360 rad would be correct my friend. Status update, 360 rad, 240 rad, and 5 NF-P12's have been ordered. I'm piecing this all together bit by bit starting with the rads and fans so I can assess fitnent and mod as needed.

The 360 Rad (64mm) is the XTX from EK, and the 240 (47mm)is just the XT. I'm a bit worried about the 240 clearance with fans not fitting above the mobo. I think it could be a matter of 2-5mm

Nice, it already looks pretty good and you rarely see water cooling done in a C70. Looking forward to see how this turns out

I'll be sure to keep this updated and with more detail including pics along the way.  I realized that even though it was a small mod to start, some may have appreciated seeing the 5.25 bay being drilled out.

Lol, interestingly enough the more and more of you that sub to this the more nervous and intricate I'm getting with the planning of this build.  Just to throw it out there I'm actually stuck as far as ideas for color schemes go.  Obviously the NF-F12's play a huge part in the decision which is already made.  I'm just not sure if I want to stick to my roots with a Marine Corps style theme, or just strictly a grungy desert/olive drab dusty rugged war ridden theme.

Rusty rugged military theme sorta thing sounds awesome too me! You don't see many watercooled builds with that theme going on... and the F12's will suit it nicely ::P

Alright, so I did some "mock" up work on the mounting plate for my HDD's and in the future some SSD's as well.  This is just a rough template, I wanted to test it out.

Also, just thought Id throw some nooby pics of this rig when I first assembled it in a CM 932 HAF.  Enjoy or hate it! lol

Almost forgot until I saw the uploads, the Antec 900 case is my wife's old case before she switched to a Bitfenix Prodigy.  I didn't even waste time with cable management, I just loaded it up and stuffed them in! lol

Are you going to rivet those holes or are the screws and nuts permanent?

I'll go through with my permanent solution with rivets.  This is merely just to get components back into the case because the antec 900 was killing my temperatures and also because I wanted to get ready for Rad fit and modding.  The final product will either be painted to match the case or it will be a desert color and riveted in.

Be sure to get sleeved cables going, but be careful with the color scheme. Try to stay within the boundaries of black and gray to contrast the military green.

yeah I'm flirting with the idea of gray, black, or desert brown or even a contrast there of.  One thing I would really like to be able to do is find either a desert sandy brown colored liquid, or I guess find something gray.

Looks great. I already have a 360 in the top of my c70 but eventually I want to take out the 5.25 bays like you did and put a 360 there.

Thanks!  I plan to either make a perforated plate for proper airflow of the top fan, or I'm going to mod those face plates myself.  I'm sure I dont' even have to mod them to create decent airflow but still.  Also, i think I'm going to go with like a Borderlands style mod as far as color scheme goes.  Seems to be more forgiving as far as the things I can do.

First radiator will be coming in today, just an update with the hard drive mount.  I actually found a way to re use a piece of the 5.25 bay.  I'm not considering it permanent even if I do rivet it in there, but it looks much better than the machined aluminum I had in there for the mock up.

Had to mod the spacing of the screw holes for this to fit.  This again is another temporary set up, but just wanted to post an update. I ordered some harnesses, the other radiator, and a few other things.  Get a bit closer I suppose.

A don't worry update:

Cables will be sleeved, things still need to be painted, and important liquid cooling crap still needs to be purchased. lol

Just an update, got some cable harnesses in today for all the fans.  Also, I decided not to go with the NF-F12's in the end only because of cost right now.  I decided to go with the Corsair SP-120's, hopefully they don't make me regret the decision.  Monday my EK XT 240 Rad with tubing comes in and earlier this morning I placed the order for my EK GPU blocks with parallel bridge.  All thats left to buy now is the CPU block, fittings, and the pump and res.  More pics to come as things come in.
