I have a server at home but it is doing nothing most of the time

i have recently build my own server

 

cpu: intel core i3-3220t

motherboard: msi H61MA-E35

psu: corsair VS350 350W

harddisk: HGST 1TB HD

case: sharkoon VS3-s

 

I use it as a file server and as a media stream server.

but most of the time it is on but not being used.

 

I am searching for thinks that i can use it for, any suggestions ?

To be honest, the profit margin is very limited when it comes to running a DNS server. It is, in effect, and old scam. There are many people who advetise third party DNS hosting and there are always a few people who bite. You can advertise things like 'business security" and "parental control" things. People are willing to pay a monthly subscription in order to have a more secure business or restrict children from accessing questionable sites

Use it to mine or fold. Something helpful. Mine lite coin not bit, no GPU is bad bad thing for bitcoin mining

Couple of suggestions:

  • Run a VPN so you can browse secure when connected to public networks.
  • Run a Teamspeak/Mumble server for you and your friends.
  • Check out Plex for your media streaming needs

These are things that can come in handy, i run them on my server as well, still it's sitting idle all day.

I use plex for media streaming and i had a teamspeakserver but i didn't realy use it ...
